Stony Stevenson writes "Google presents a big fat target for would-be hackers and attackers. At the RSA conference Google offered security professionals a look at its internal security systems. Scott Petry, director of Google's Enterprise and founder of security firm Postini, explained how the company handles constant pressure and scrutiny from attackers. In order to keep its products safe, Google has adopted a philosophy of 'security as a cultural value.' The program includes mandatory security training for developers, a set of in-house security libraries, and code reviews by both Google developers and outside security researchers."

Google doesn't operate a network, if uses others. They take this attitude like all people who want a free ride. Verizon has a valid need to test an application on it's network before letting it on it. What if a new application causes network problems for Verizon's network and their Customers on that network. Will Google make Verizon whole if they lose business because of a snafu is loosed on their network by some rouge application. Give me a break. Will Google allow me to put applications on their servers without and testing> I doubt it would. I would put up such a fuss about their right to control their network, etc. Get a real life Google.

A web seminar Google held yesterday at KMWorld Magazine offered a great deal of insight into how Google manages projects and communication internally. The presentation by Google followed an employee through his first few weeks at the company, explaining the many tools he’s using: from the Google intranet MOMA, the Google Ideas site and Google Caribou Alpha, to Google Experts Search, “Googler Search,” and Google Apps. Following is a smaller excerpt of the large-size screenshots & info Google was showing in the 59-page presentation, with thanks to Brian – who has a wrap-up of the presentation as well as the full slides at his blog – for sending this in. KMWorld says the presentation will be archived at their site eventually, so perhaps if you register with them you might still be able to see the event.

Google, seeking to reduce its dependence on advertising tied to Internet search results, will expand a television ad service with Dish Network. Google's U.S. AdWords customers will be able to bid for spots in the coming weeks, the Mountain View company said Monday in an e-mail. Google started the program with a limited number of advertisers last year. Brokering TV spots is part of Google's strategy to move beyond selling text links on the Web. Google also has programs that automate the process of buying ads in newspapers and on radio. Advertisers can buy spots of 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds, choosing what stations they appear on and when they run.
