Peace Corps Online writes "This week, as part of their tenth birthday celebration, Google announced the launch of project ten to the 100th, a project designed to inspire and fund the development of ideas that will help to change the world. They have called on members of the public to share their ideas for solutions that will help as many people as possible in the global community, offering a $10 million prize pool to back the development of those chosen as winners. 'We know there are countless brilliant ideas that need funding and support to come to fruition,' says Bethany Poole, Project Marketing Manager for Google. 'These ideas can be big or small, technology-driven or brilliantly simple — but they need to have impact.' Borders.com Goes Live with Google Preview

Borders has enabled Google Preview on their site. Google Preview, unveiled in September, is a widget-like tool that allows retailers or anyone handy with Web site code to embed a preview of 20% of any book in Google’s database onto their site. Borders joins Books-A-Million and the U.K. retailer Blackwell Bookshop in using the service. The deal between Google and its retail partners stipulates that retailers will enable Google Preview for any book being sold that is also available in Google’s database, in exchange for an enhanced version of the Preview software. The big advantage for retailers of Google Preview is that it allows consumers to brows books scanned by Google without leaving the retailer’s Web site. Gmail and Google Talk Users Access Online Collaboration through Yuuguu

Yuuguu announced the integration of the Google Talk Instant Messaging (IM) network into its real-time collaboration and web conferencing service. Yuuguu users can now share screens, hold web conferences, and work collaboratively with anyone on the Google Talk IM network all via the Yuuguu application. The Google Talk IM network is accessible via the downloadable Google Talk client, and the purely browser based GMail, iGoogle, and Google Apps services. Yuuguu has an integrated buddy list and chat system. Yuuguu users can link to their existing Google account and any contacts they have on the Google Talk IM network will automatically appear in their Yuuguu buddy list. Yuuguu users can chat with friends or colleagues on the Google Talk IM network.

Al Salam Bank-Bahrain reports net profit of US$60.1 million

(MENAFN Press) Al Salam Bank Bahrain announced a net profit of BD22.7 million (US$60.1 million) for the nine month period ended 30 September 2008 registering increase of 30% compared to BD17.4 million (US$46.2 million) for the corresponding period in 2007. The earnings per share for the period were 18.9 fils against 14.5 fils for the corresponding period in 2007. The results represent a quarterly net profit of BD7.4 million (US$19.6 million) for the quarter ended 30 September 2008 compared to BD3.3 million (US$8.8 million), an increase of 120%, in the corresponding quarter in 2007.

Sony Ericsson moves to net loss in Q3

Sony Ericsson reported a net loss of EUR 25 million for the third quarter, versus a profit of EUR 267 million in the year-earlier period. The result included EUR 35 million in restructuring charges for the company's plans to cut EUR 300 million in annual costs by mid-2009. The operating result moved to a loss of EUR 33 million from a profit of EUR 393 million a year ago, and revenues fell 10 percent to EUR 2.81 billion. The company attributed the sales drop to negative currency effects and a shift in the product mix towards more low-end devices. Sony Ericsson shipped 25.7 million mobile phones in the quarter, down from 25.9 million a year ago but up from 24.4 million in the second quarter. India's mobile subscriber base hits 315 mln in September

The number of subscribers to phone services in India grew to 353.66 million at the end of September, from 343.87 million in August. According to figures from market regulator TRAI, the overall teledensity increased to 30.64 percent from 29.83 percent in August. In the mobile segment, 10.07 million subscribers were added in September, up from 9.16 million subscribers in August. The total mobile subscriber base was 315.31 million at the end of September. The wireline subscriber base decreased to 38.35 million at the end of September from 38.63 million. Total broadband connections in India increased to 4.90 million versus 4.73 million.
