Google has added new functionality for its Maps for Mobile program. Users of BlackBerrys and other Java-based phones will be able to use the Street Views feature of Google Maps on their mobile devices. This means you can see an actual picture of locations or addresses so you can get a better sense of what you're looking for. Google has also added walking directions to Maps for Mobile, and has improved the accuracy of the My Location feature.

Canadian operator Globalive has partnered with MyScreen Mobile to launch mobile advertising services. Globalive, which already offers services under the brand Yak, recently acquired mobile spectrum in Canada and is preparing to launch its own mobile services. Orascom Telecom is also an investor in the mobile venture, which has been asking for consumer input on the new service on the website wirelesssoapbox.com. Globalive said the MyScreen partnership will allow the company to make mobile services more affordable. The MyScreen advertising application will be embedded on all of Globalive's mobile devices. That platform allows operators to compensate mobile subscribers for allowing targeted screen advertisements to be displayed on their mobile devices, at the end of a call or SMS.

With its Mobile Marketing Forum kicking off in San Diego tomorrow, the Mobile Marketing Association has released a preview of its annual study that tracks general attitudes about mobile habits. The survey concluded that one in four mobile users in the U.S. and Western Europe are interested in mobile marketing, but in Asia Pacific and Latin America interest increases to as many as two thirds of users. After being sent out to developers last week promising only "compatibility testing" enhancements, the pre-release version of iPhone software 2.2 is starting to spill its secrets. The folks at Mac Rumors have dug up evidence that appears to indicate Google Maps' Street View finally making it into the Maps app, after popping up in the regular mobile Maps applications for non-iPhones as well as, of course, Android, with the cool Compass view feature. On top of Street View, they've also uncovered a few other new features, including the ability to disable the text auto-correction feature while typing.
