Ad Industry Roundup: Yahoo/HotJobs; Mercedes; Creative Meets Search; Google; Spot Runner; Guardian

Yahoo HotJobs introduces ranked searches: A dismal economy inevitably tends to lead to more job seekers, so perhaps Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) has timed the launch of HotJobs’ new search ranking system just right. Dubbed “R.E.A.L. (for “Relevance, Engagement, Availability and Location") the system is meant to give recruiters greater insights into job seekers’ behavior. The system uses Yahoo’s behavioral targeting and search optimization tools to rank job listings based on user engagement, as opposed to what Yahoo calls “traditional category-based, date-sorted experience.” So far, Yahoo claims that since the beta launch earlier this year, “applies” per job listing have increased by 25 percent.

Search Engine Wars : Google & Yahoo

Now that you have figured out what the market is that you are aiming for and which products or services you wish to sell or market, you need to understand the search engines in general. There are essentially 3 search engines in use today. They are Google, Yahoo and MSN. There are other search engines however as their user base is much smaller or either very unique, they are of lesser importance than the 3 large engines. Localised search engines such as the Chinese search engine Bandu would be of critical importance if you are selling in the Chinese market however the Chinese are unique in that the engine is specifically built for Chinese users due to its unique search ability of the Chinese language. Getting listed on Ananzi for a South African specific website would help you in your traffic building arena however in my view mainly for it

JOB Search Ranking System by Yahoo! HotJobs

HotJobs, an online recruitment destination, will make the recruiting process more efficient by providing recruiters with unique insights into job seeker’s behavior. According to Yahoo! HotJobs, while this new algorithm leverages Yahoo!’s behavioral targeting and search optimization strengths to rank job listings based on user engagement, R.E.A.L. has moved Yahoo! With the launch of R.E.A.L., “applies” per job listing have increased by 25%, says the company – a key success metric for recruiters. “R.E.A.L. is a key pillar in our strategy to deliver the best in performance and value for recruitment adverti

Microsoft And Yahoo! Search Engine Partners? Where Google Comes In

Until recently, there were five major players in the search engine world: Google, MSN, AOL, Ask.com, and the Yahoo! search engine. These top Internet search engines quickly could be narrowed down to four, however; AOL uses the Google algorithm and will yield nearly identical results. Further narrowing is rapidly occurring - Ask.com seems to be stepping out of the spotlight to focus on specific markets, and in early March 2008, Microsoft began attempting to purchase the Yahoo! search engine. If there are just two top search engines with which to be concerned, what does this mean for your business and for SEO as a whole?
