Robot Provides Versatility in Diverse Coating Applications - Posted 5/6/08

The high-speed EPX2050 robot from Motoman is designed to provide versatility and superior performance. The six-axis robot can be used for painting contoured parts such automotive car bodies and plastic component parts, agricultural equipment and aerospace parts. The robot features a Factory Mutual (FM) Class 1, Div. 1 intrinsically safe (explosion-proof) rating for use in hazardous environments. It has a 15 kg (33.1-lb) payload capacity, 2,054 mm (80.9”) reach, and ±0.5 mm (±0.02”) repeatability. The compact, highly flexible robot can be floor-, wall- or ceiling-mounted to provide layout flexibility. The robot is available with a hollow wrist that has a 50 mm (1.97”) diameter. A hollow wrist facilitates the mounting of spray equipment and interference between the hoses and parts/fixtures is avoided, ensuring optimum cycle time and

Palletizing robot

The intelligent M-410iB palletizing robot is the co.'s latest-generation robot designed for precise, high-speed and heavy-payload case and bag palletizing and depalletizing, layer handling, press tending, machine load/unload and parts transfer. The robot is a four-axes, modular system, with an electric servo drive and an integrated mechanical and control unit that maximizes the robot's performance and makes it ideal for limited floor space, the co. says. The robot can handle cases or bags weighing 100-kg at rates of 20 cycles/min for cases and 28 cycles/min for bags. In addition, with a maximum reach of 3,143-mm, the robot's large work envelope enables it to service multiple lines at one time. Available options include row and layer end-of-arm tooling for higher throughput applications and fork grippers for handling bags, trays, pails or

Survivor Buddy, a Friendly Robot Rescuer

Roland Piquepaille writes "The St. Petersburg Times, Florida, reports that a well-known robot designer, Robin Murphy, a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of South Florida (USF), 'plans to add a heart to robot rescuers.' As says USF, the goal is to develop 'a robot that will be a companion to a person who may be trapped after a car crash or in building ruins following an earthquake, or someone pinned down by sniper fire.' As said Murphy, 'robots can provide not only a sense of being a 'buddy' by playing soothing music or providing other entertainment, the robot also can be the audio and video link between survivor and family.' Murphy will develop this robot with some money coming from Microsoft. But read more for additional references and a picture of Murphy with her robot rescuers.

Incheon to Open Robot Land in 2012

Incheon has been going all-out to open its long-cherished plans to launch Robot Land in 2012. "At present, there is no particular problem to build Robot Land, the first of its kind in the world. We plan to establish a special purpose company (SPC) in October this year centering on companies that submitted a document promising investment to the city," Eugene Jun, director of the Robot Land Planning T/F Team, Incheon Metropolitan City, said. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy picked Incheon and Masan as the preliminary bidders for construction of Robot Land in November last year after screening 10 bidders. It selected Incheon as No. 1 preliminary bidder and Masan in South Gyeongsang Province as No 2 bidder.

The Future is Now for the Robot Revolution

Although Phase One of what's been called the "Robot Revolution" is nearly 50 years old, it continues to dominate automotive assembly. But that initial phase offers hardly a hint of what's to come. Look for new robot generations -- some remarkably humanoid -- to change the fundamentals of robot usage throughout our culture, both as industrial and nonindustrial solutions. Both Honda and Toyota are prototyping humanoid personal-assist robots, and Motoman now offers a humanoid design for industrial applications.

Robot makes spinal medicine more precise

A robot in a lab at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is making spinal medicine more precise. The robot combines off-the-shelf hardware used in structural engineering that has been modified by University professors or grad students. Proprietary software drives the system. Since its development, the robot has been used frequently to study the performance potential of artificial spinal discs.

Why robot?

Robot Clever boffins strike again. It's the Japanese way to come up with yet more weird and wonderful technological inventions to astound and amaze. First the heated toilet seat and now this: the perfect woman. Well, that's what scientists Etienne Fresse and Yoichi Yamato claim to have invented – a female robot designed to satisfy every male fantasy, including cooking, cleaning and erm, massaging, according to reports. Sneak isn't too sure about the enterprise applications of this particular IT aide, who has been christened Lisa, incidentally. Maybe you could get her to clean the server room out, or make you a nice cup of tea as you draw up your budgets for the next financial year.

Robot to Conduct Detroit Symphony

Honda Motor's Asimo robot will make its conducting debut next month with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Asimo is a humanoid robot able to walk forwards and backwards and climb stairs. Honda has been active in robotic research and design for over 20 years and Asimo, which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, has been their robotics ambassador having made prior appearances here in the U.S. Asimo is scheduled to conduct the orchestra for one piece - "Impossible Dream" from the Man of La Mancha musical. Honda is not the only company that has musically inclined robots. Toyota has demonstrated a humanoid robot capable of playing the violin. Don't expect to rush out and get tickets for the May 13 concert as the show is sold out.

Robot Controllers integrate within existing equipment.

May 30, 2008 - Supplied in chassis form, panel-mount robot controllers measure 250 mm deep and are designed to facilitate application planning, set up, operation, and maintenance of single or multiple robot cells. Each unit controls up to 4 robots, and separate modules specifically address robot control, axis drives, and process control. Technologies are included for optimization of motions for all robots and external axes as well as fully synchronous operation of multiple robots.

Dutch robot wins international LEGO competition

How Does NY State Manage Its PowerBuilder Applications?

Most applications need upgrades and corrections. If you maintain in-house development you want to be particularly sharp about this. You can’t afford to lose knowledgeable people to turnover and be left with no one able to maintain mission-critical applications. So you’ll have to find a solution to handle any question, evolution or crisis related to these applications. Vincenzo Cianfarani, project manager, explains how New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) deals with such issues.
