MELVILLE, N.Y. , Aug. 7 -- Nikon Inc. announced the launch of six new COOLPIX digital cameras featuring robust technologies designed to make photography easy and fun. New to the COOLPIX product line and present in each of the new cameras is the Scene Auto Selector Mode, which automatically selects the right scene mode for the image you are shooting for carefree photography. Nikon COOLPIX also makes taking great portraits a snap with new technologies, including Smile Mode, which automatically triggers the shutter when a subject is smiling and Blink Warning, which displays a message when it detects that a subject has blinked. In addition to these aforementioned features, present in select models of this new COOLPIX line are amazing technologies such as a TOUCH-SCREEN interface, Wi-Fi transmission and GPS capabilities.

Nikon, Inc. has introduced the new D700 digital SLR camera featuring a 12.1-effective megapixel Nikon FX-format sensor that measures 23.9 x 36mm, which is nearly identical to the size of 35mm film. The D700 offers pro-level performance and an extensive array of features and innovations. In addition to the Nikon-original FX-format CMOS sensor, the D700 incorporates Nikon's EXPEED Image Processing System, Nikon’s 51-point auto focus system with 3D Focus Tracking and two Live View shooting modes that allow photographers to frame a shot using the camera's three-inch high-resolution LCD monitor. The D700 also features Nikon’s Scene Recognition System and a new active dust reduction system.

Unfortunately the sun was shining with high temperatures, so high ISO photos were out of the question. As soon as I have finished the full Nikon D700 test, high ISO photos will be part of the review. The new Nikon D700 was introduced the first of July and is for many Nikon enthusiast and SLR photographers quite a surprise. 12 Megapixels, compact body and the same image sensor as the professional Nikon D3; some pretty interesting specs! Currently I have a full production model in the office, at the same time there is also a second Nikon D700 tested by Kai Thon, DIWA's test manager, at the DIWA Labs in Norway.

Nikon's D700 and SB900

Released yesterday, the D700 is a 12.1 megapixel digital SLR camera with a wide range of features borrowed from Nikon's flagship D300 model. The camera has Nikon’s FX-format sensor with an ISO range of 200 to 6400, as well as continuous shooting abilities at up to five frames per second — which can be bumped up to a spectacular 8fps with the battery pack attached. The camera has its own proprietary 51-point autofocus system, with a Scene Recognition System that ensures optimum focusing in all situations. Also released was Nikon’s SB900 Speedlight flash unit, sporting an extensive LCD panel and the ability to accept firmware upgrades through supported Nikon cameras — a first for any manufacturer. In addition, the flash can be used wirelessly to provide creative lighting for any scene.
