The stock hit its 52 week high of 18.85 in December and set its 52 week low of 7.52 in March. ESLR slipped at the beginning of this year, but is showing signs of rebound recently. Evergreen Solar shares have been plunging following a dilution from a convertible debt offering announced today and a related stock-lending agreement. Evergreen said it priced $325 million of 4% senior convertible notes due 2013. Technical indicators for the stock are bullish but slightly deteriorating while S&P gives ESLR a very positive 5 STARS (out of 5) strong buy rating. If you’re looking for a hedged play on this stock, consider an August bear-call credit spread above the $12.

While the Dow Jones Industrial Average is trading with a triple-digit loss, the shares of Evergreen Solar (ESLR: View sentiment for ESLRsentiment, chart, options) have taken the road less traveled. The gains are likely attributable to the company's recent announcement that it has locked a $1.2-billion sales contract with German-based IBC SOLAR AG extending through 2013. The new contract brings the solar sultan's total contractual backlog to roughly $3 billion. "This contract represents the single largest contract in the history of our company," ESLR chairman, president and CEO Richard M. Feldt stated, "and is one of the largest contracts ever between a panel manufacturer and a distributor."

Evergreen Solar (ESLR): Stock vaulted from 10.40 to 11.56 late in the first hour of night trade. It dropped back to 11.25, where upside liquidity was strong, and stepped higher through the mid-session, rising from 11.40 to a brief high of 11.85. Sellers funneled in some moderate downside pressure off the top and dropped ESLR to a still positive range of 11.35 to 11.75 - levels where its stayed through much of its second-half evening action. A pre-market open on Thursday looks to have potential near 11.60. We would expect ESLR's early upside trade tomorrow to be a bit overeager as the stock is often a news-driven volume favorite in pre-market trade. With that in mind, longs may want to look for potential entry points close to 11.35 to 11.50, an area that could form as a pre-bell base of support for moves back to 11.

(Nanowerk News) Cheap and efficient conversion of solar energy into electricity could help combat global warming and the shortage of fossil fuels. However, the high production cost of electricity from silicon-based solar cells has limited the use of the technology. Low cost solar cells with high cell performance are highly desirable and organic solar cells could be the answer. They are easy to make from inexpensive organic materials and, unlike inorganic solar cells, are lightweight, flexible and colourful.

We humans like to think we're special, but astronomically speaking we've been shot down quite severely and humbly put in our place. We're not at the center of our solar system, nowhere near the center of our galaxy and certainly not at the center of the universe. But now comes great news for the human psyche from scientists trying to explain solar system formation. As far as solar systems go, we have thought ours was just average and that all solar systems were like ours. But in looking at the 300 plus extrasolar planets that have been discovered and the systems they are in, none so far are anything like our home solar system. In fact, say scientists at Northwestern University, we may be special after all. In a study using computer simulations (this is the week for computer simulations, see here and here), researchers ran more than a hund

Vegematic writes "Researchers at MIT have improved solar collectors using dyes. They just increased their performance results by a factor of 4. These paint-on materials can increase the power obtained from existing solar cells by a factor of over 40 without needing to track the sun. 'By collecting light over their full surface and concentrating it at their edges, these devices reduce the required area of solar cells and consequently, the cost of solar power. Stacking multiple concentrators allows the optimization of solar cells at each wavelength, increasing the overall power output.' There is also a shorter FAQ available."

FSLR stock could rise up to 19.5% before expiration and this position would still be profitable.
