Lot equity can eliminate need for PMI: related news

Lot equity can eliminate need for PMI

I am currently having a home built on a lot that I own. I have an interim loan and will need to get permanent financing when the project is complete.

The End of Gamers

Think of all the things you can do with a photograph. You can document the atrocities of war, as photojournalists sometimes do. You can record fleeting moments in time, as did documentarians like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank. You can capture the ordinary moments of family life, as many people do at birthday parties or holidays for an album or shoebox archive. You can take a snapshot reminder of a home improvement project in order to buy the right part at the hardware store. An automated street intersection photograph can capture license plate for future ticketing, and a pornographer can capture a nude body for future titillation.

How Does RSS Work? What Can I Do With RSS?

Really Simple Syndication feeds can be extremely useful! The purpose of RSS is to regularly update your hobby interests by receiving dynamic web feeds directly to your screen. Examples include: tracking DVD prices at Amazon, watching for cheap airfares, following the Don Imus controversy. You can get the latest gossip on Anna Nicole Smith's baby, receive the latest wallpaper from your favorite web photographer, or follow the NHL hockey playoffs. You can get the joke of the day or the quote of the week. You can even get barbecue recipes! There are so many interesting things you can do with RSS. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

The limits of iPhoto slideshows

I have iPhoto ’06 and find that I can create a marvelous slideshow, but I can’t do anything with it—cannot post to MobilMe, can’t drag to my iDisk, can’t drag to my Desktop. If I want to share it, it seems the only thing I can do is export my photos to iMovie and create a mini-movie with my still photos, and then save it and hope my PC friends can see it.

Real-World 3G Monthly Cost With Taxes and Fees?

Kristl writes "I have called AT&T and walked into several AT&T stores to ask 'How much will an AT&T phone plan cost per month with taxes and fees and everything?'. No one can answer this question. They are evasive and become testy when I push them on it. Their answer is they can't tell me what the government is going to charge me as the fees can vary month to month, but I've been an AT&T customer for several years, and my taxes and fees have not varied more than a dollar in all of that time. So I question them: 'Can you just tell me what the taxes and fees will be for a 3G plan in California that has the basic calling plan, basic data plan, and the basic text plan?' I even do the math for them, that's $75. Okay AT&T, what are the taxes and fees on $75? Oh, they can't tell me that, as the taxes and fees can vary from month to month.

Zumobi Launches Its Widget User Interface For BlackBerry Devices

imageZumobi, which has created an ad-supported user interface using widgets, said its BlackBerry application is now officially available. In addition, the Seattle company said it has new widgets from NPR, AP Olympics report, Major League Baseball, Facebook, Twitter (pictured) and from the blog “BlackBerry Cool”. Users can register and download for the app from either online or from the phone at http://get.zumobi.com. Once the application is downloaded, users can pick 16 widgets that can be viewed from the homepage. To view tiles, users can zoom into quadrants or individual widgets. From the Twitter tile, users can write, read or reply to tweets. An ad at the bottom from Comedy Central is the sponsor. Zumobi, which was spun off from Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), already has a Windows Mobile app, but has a lot of competition, the largest of w

Kensington Charger Makes iPhone One With Car

iPhone 3G owners need all the extra juice they can get. Time spent driving can also be time spent racking up power, so a car charger can come in handy. The Kensington Car Charger Delux holds the phone firmly in place so you can control the music it's playing, writes reviewer Chris Maxcer. However, it's a little clumsy if you want to pick up the phone to take a call -- if that's even legal where you live.

Interesting online CMS for existing pages

If you maintain a website that has several people who need to edit content, you can install and configure a high-powered CMS like Joomla!, or you can purchase Contribute for your content authors, or you can set up SnippetMaster on your PHP site and allow them to maintain it through that tool. I first learned of this tool a few days ago in the comments, and it looks pretty useful - especially if you have a lot of non-Web developers who manage content. Thanks Peggy for the heads up about this product.

15 great, free privacy downloads

One of the worst privacy invaders the world has ever seen is the Internet. When you surf, Web sites can find out where you've been and can gather other information about you. Trojan horses and spyware can snoop on you. Key loggers can capture your keystrokes as you type. Eavesdroppers can steal your passwords.

Perl and the Practical Systems Administrator

Systems administrators are very busy people. Sometimes a bit of common sense programming can go a long way toward eliminating some of the repetitive tasks associated with systems administration. Perl can be used to automate many recurring tasks. AccountCheck is an example Perl script that automatically checks for problems that can occur when user accounts are made and deleted without every necessary step being completed. Partially created or deleted accounts can be a security hazard, acting as hidden doors to let intruders enter a system. Most systems have such hidden doors. This Perl script checks for all the common types of errors that can occur. It checks the following:

Sony€™s DVDirect DVD Recorder

July 10, 2008 The Sony VRDMC3 DVDirect DVD Recorder does just what its name suggests it records to DVDs directly from other sources, and it does so without the need for a PC. The VRDMC3 can record from just about any source such as camcorders, DVDs or VCRs, thanks to the provided USB, Firewire, S-Video and composite inputs. In addition to video, still images can be copied directly from memory card to DVD as a slideshow or for photo storage by using the built-in 5-in-1 card reader. PictBridge compatibility allows the unit to interface directly with a printer and images can be previewed using the 2.5-inch colour LCD that sits on top of the unit. Once selections have been made they can be copied to disc using the large "record" located just below the screen.

ITUNES APP STORE COMPLETES THE IPHONE

We all pretty much know that the iPhone is an amazing cell phone with abilities not found in any other competing product. There was a lot of media attention with the recent launch of its next 3G generation iteration. But for me, I get good enough Edge reception where I live so I can see web pages fairly quickly. And while it's true that you can talk on the phone while surfing only with the 3G model, I only needed to do that maybe twice in the year I've owned mine. Plus I have a Garmin navigator in my car so I also don't really need to use my iPhone as a navigation device. Besides, the 2.0 OS upgrade makes me feel like I have a whole new phone anyway. So for now, I'm sticking with my current model. Perhaps when its Safari browser supports more multimedia elements such as Flash, I may feel the need for more speed to accommodate the larger d

Open Source Adeona Tracks Lost & Stolen Laptops

An anonymous reader writes "Adeona is the first Open Source system for tracking the location of your lost or stolen laptop that does not rely on a proprietary, central service. This means that you can install Adeona on your laptop and go — there's no need to rely on a single third party. What's more, Adeona addresses a critical privacy goal different from existing commercial offerings. It is privacy-preserving. This means that no one besides the owner (or an agent of the owner's choosing) can use Adeona to track a laptop. Unlike other systems, users of Adeona can rest assured that no one can abuse the system in order to track where they use their laptop."

Creating An Online Form: Internet business

If you have recently established a website for your first internet business, adding a simple web form to your website, such as a feedback form, contact form, or other online form, can be a tough task. Most programming novices create their first website using pre-developed templates and have no advanced knowledge of HTML programming. As a result, creating a simple web form that can email the form responses to the webmaster can be a difficult and frustrating task. If you just posted a new website, but you do not have a web form uploaded and you need to quickly provide a way for your visitors to contact you, then you should simply post your email address on your Contact page. However, if you want to create a sophisticated online form to collect information from your visitors and respond to their questions, you need to know something about HT

Diablo 3 Developer Explains Health and Potion Changes

One of the new features in the upcoming Diablo 3 release is a change from the traditional potion-guzzling, inventory-clogging system of previous games to a new scheme in which monsters drop health orbs on the ground that refill your health when you touch them. Lead Designer Jay Wilson says the change makes for more varied gameplay and a more consistent way to scale difficulty. He told the Multiplayer blog: "When the player has similar downsides, it means we can make a lot more interesting monsters. We don't have to kill you to challenge you. We can make a monster that affects your mobility, we can make a monster that has different kinds of attacks that are dangerous to you and that you actually have to avoid. And so it makes the combat a lot more interesting.

Mortgage equity withdrawal, when homeowners extract cash against the value of their property, fell in the first quarter to a seven-year low as the housing market slump deepened. The Bank of England said that equity withdrawal fell to 5 billion in the quarter, from nearly 14 billion a year earlier and 7.4 billion in the final quarter of last year. The decline left equity withdrawal at the equivalent of 2.3 per cent of disposable incomes, down from a peak of 6.5 per cent in 2007.

PMI protects lender, not borrower

If someone had PMI on a primary residence and went into foreclosure, would the PMI protect that person from a possible deficiency judgment from the mortgage company? Or does PMI only protect the lender?

How Can Nerds Make a Difference In November?

Scott Aaronson offers an intriguing call for ideas on how nerds can supercharge the political process this year. He's clearly an Obama admirer and phrases his challenge this way: "What non-obvious things can nerds who are so inclined do to help the Democrats win in November?" But the question itself is not inherently partisan. The analogy Aaronson gives is to the Nadertrading idea in 2000 (which we discussed at the time). What's the Nadertrading for 2008? "The sorts of ideas I'm looking for are ones that (1) exploit nerds' nerdiness, (2) go outside the normal channels of influence, (3) increase nerds' effective voting power by several orders of magnitude, (4) are legal, (5) target critical swing states, and (6) can be done as a hobby."

Mobile computers: Purchasing decision making can be child?s play

What do I need? What can I afford? Will it do the job? Will it integrate properly? Will the colour match our corporate livery? Buying new technology can be a tough job and Martin Morey reveals some of the lessons that came from talking to potential buyers at the field service community’s recent exhibition.

Web applications can look like local applications

color wheel As Web designers we spend a lot of time trying to make our designs stand out. But sometimes it's better to blend in. And with the CSS system color keywords, you can build Web applications that look like they are actually Windows or Macintosh applications. For example, when you open up Word, it doesn't open in the Microsoft color palette. All the window bars, menus, and so on are in the color palette of your machine. And to be user friendly, Web applications can do the same thing with these keywords.
