Mozilla Corp. released its updated browser, Firefox 3.0, last month with a push to set a new world record for most number of downloads of a new release in a 24 hour period. Now results show that Firefox posted a 0.6% market share increase in June to 19% of the overall browser market. Safari and Opera also eked out small gains in June as well. These increases come at the expense of Microsoft's Internet Explorer which fell to 73%. The bulk of Firefox's increase came following the June 17 release of Firefox 3.0. All three alternative browsers hit all time highs with IE hitting a corresponding record low. If these trends continue, Firefox is expected to break 20% market share this month.

What's more, the market for the material's current uses -- including paints, printing inks, plastic and paper products, food, cosmetics, ceramics and rubber -- "are keeping export levels robust," the report

How bad was 2007 for breaches, vulnerabilities and similar mayhem? On the bright side, it was better than 2008 is forecast to be. With more of every sort of meltdown predicted -- more criminalization of the hacker community, more Web-application attacks, more phishing, more spamming, more zero-day attacks and more virtualization-related threats -- we're happy to tell you that you are likely to look back on 2007 as the peaceful old days.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.

Caught this latest update of the top MP3 player manufacturers from the Wall Street Journal. The provider of the data is, of course, NPD, a group whose figures we take with a grain of salt. No surprise here that Apple is number one in MP3, though with a market share that has grown from two-thirds market share to nearly three-out of four players. SanDisk remains at number two, but hey look...Microsoft's Zune line has moved into number three, albeit with a modest 4% share of the market. Still, that's better that the 2% held by Sony and Creative Labs. We are assuming that NPD is including portables that handle video too, simply because that would otherwise imply that Apple's shuffle, the only audio-only MP3 player in its line, has 71% of the market alone.

Barence writes "Mozilla has unveiled a spectacular new concept browser, dubbed Aurora. The bleeding-edge browser is part of a new Mozilla Labs initiative, in which the open-source foundation is encouraging people to contribute ideas and designs for the browser of the future. The Aurora browser demonstration shows a highly advanced way of collaborating data gathered on the web, and represents a spectacular introduction to the new Mozilla Labs, which much like Google Labs looks to become a home for offbeat projects which would otherwise probably never see the light of day. More details, and a video demonstration, are on the Mozilla Labs site."
