Mozilla is gearing up to make available the next releases of Firefox 3.0 and Firefox 2.0. At the end of September 2008, Firefox 2.0.0.17 and Firefox 3.0.2 stability and security updates were made available for download. By the end of that month, Mozilla was also releasing Firefox 3.0.3, an update designed to resolve a regression issue introduced by version 3.0.2. The coming week, users will be able to update to Firefox 3.0.4 and Firefox 2.0.0.18, according to Mozilla's current plans.

Having just offered the Firefox 3.0.2 stability and security update for version 3.0.1, Mozilla is hard at work to produce yet another refresh. Firefox 3.0.2 was released simultaneously with Firefox 2.0.0.17, but while the integration of the latter went as smooth as possible, the latest update for v3.0 brought a regression issue. Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's User Experience Lead indicated that Mozilla identified the problem and is hammering away at another 3.0 update.

In October, Mozilla witnessed a surge in Firefox 3's market share as it continued its plan to decommission Firefox 2 -- and the Gecko engine that powered it -- before the end of December. For two weeks in October, Firefox 3 claimed 20% market share, something that web metrics company Net Applications predicted might happen within a month of the new version's June release. Stalled growth, and Chrome's appearance caused some backslide, but Firefox 3's pulse is getting stronger.

SCRAWL: "A new update to the official Japanese White Knight Chronicles website shows us a brand new area in the game as well as a new character. The new area is rather woodsy, it seems, as we see nothing but log-ccabins, wood, and grass. The new character, who's name we do not know in English, has a Knight just as the main character does, and it's pretty freakin' bad-ass too."

Free character transfers were just announced for Warhammer Online, for characters on low population servers who'd like to move to high population servers. The service will be put into place in the coming days. The character transfers will be done in the Mythic Account Center, which will have a Character Transfer button, just below "Activate a Key" and "Validate your Email Address." In addition to Free Character Transfers, Mythic also announced Guild Transfers. This comes with its own set of caveats as the transfer cannot be reversed, with details to be listed on the Character Transfer page.

Shanghai. November 19. INTERFAX-CHINA - The launch of a localized version of the open source Firefox Web browser is aimed at doubling the browser's market share in China, a senior official with the developer's Chinese subsidiary told Interfax on Nov. 19. Gong Li, CEO of Mozilla Online Ltd., the Chinese subsidiary of Firefox developer Mozilla Corp., said that Firefox accounts for around 2 percent to 3 percent of China's Web browser market by user base. He aims to double this figure, hopefully by the end of next year. To this end, Mozilla launched its Firefox China Edition Web browser on Nov. 18, the first Firefox product specifically made for the Chinese market. "We talked with experts and conducted surveys of user habits from the beginning of this year to develop a browser with functions suited to Chinese customers," Gong said.

ElementC writes "Team Twiizers, the group behind almost all of the Wii Homebrew scene, has released an update to the Homebrew Channel (and installer) that allows for installation on a Wii with the most recent update installed. While the team still recommends against installing the Nintendo update, those who accidentally updated or purchase games that require the update are no longer left out to dry. This update to the Homebrew Channel also adds SDHC support, a feature Nintendo has not implemented in vanilla Wiis. The community has also created an app that updates just the Wii Shop Channel — allowing users to purchase Wiiware and Virtual Console games without losing their homebrew. It took the team only two days to get the fix out."

Mozilla Corporation’s policy is to support a browser for six months after it has been replaced by a new version. Firefox 3.0 has been out for some time now, and version 2.0 has continually been updated with numerous security fixes; the last of which had patched fourteen vulnerabilities. But because of the policy that the corporation holds, Mozilla only plans to supply two more security updates to the aging browser. Mike Beltzner, the director of Firefox, stated that the plan for the end of development for version 2.0 is set for the latter part of December. He also noted that a large number of Firefox 2.0 users have already upgraded their browser to version 3.0. Firefox 2.0.0.19 will be the last release of the open source browser at the end of its life span.
