Google launches free music download service in China

Google announced the launch of a free music-search service in China via its search engine, the Wall Street Journal reported. The service allows users to download licensed music files without charge and will be supported by advertising revenue split between Google, music companies and Chinese music website Top100.cn. Google did not specify which music labels have signed on. Internet users outside of China will not have access to the service. The move could help Google gain on Chinese rival search firm Baidu.com, which as of the second quarter held a 64.6% share in China's online search market compared to Google's 26.1%, according to data from technology consultancy Analysys International. A lawsuit was recently filed against Baidu for facilitating the download of unlicensed music via its search engine.

Google Sued for $1B Over Outlook Migration Tool

A two-count lawsuit filed by Chicago company LimitNone alleges that Google misappropriated trade secrets and violated Illinois' consumer fraud laws when it developed "Google Email Uploader" which competes with LimitNone's "gMove" application. Google claims its core philosophy is 'Don't be evil' but, simply put, they invited us to work with them, to trust them -- and then stole our technology' said Ray Glassman, CEO of LimitNone, in a prepared statement. Google Inc. launched a Canadian version yesterday of its voice-recognition local search phone service GOOG-411. Canada becomes the first country outside the U.S. to gain access to the service. With GOOG-411, users dial a free hotline - 1-800-GOOG-411 - and respond to the questions posed by the voice-recognizing computer. It asks for the user's city and province, and what they are searching for. A user can choose whether to hear the phone number, be connected directly to the business or receive a text message with details. There is also an option to have a Google Map link sent to their phone. Google also incorporated Canadianisms such as 'eh,''Traw-na,' 'Cal-gry,' and, of course, 'aboot.
