After eBay sued Craigslist, Craigslist's initial responses were rather weak. eBay made a pretty strong case arguing that Craigslist's board had unilaterally diluted eBay's shares -- which seems pretty questionable. Craigslist initially shot back by accusing eBay of doing the same things eBay was accusing Craigslist of doing -- but that was somewhat misleading. eBay wasn't complaining about the specific actions Craigslist was taking -- but the fact that they had done so unilaterally, despite eBay's ownership stake and board position. Then, Craigslist countersued eBay with a laundry list of charges that effectively amounted to "we don't like them being on our board." Both of these responses were a bit disappointing. While I like Craigslist, and respect Craig and Jim, they still hadn't explained why it was legal for them to unilaterally dilu

An anonymous reader writes "eBay's has lost its fight to ban all payment methods except PayPal. When Paypal originally announced the scheme it was to be global, but they began with a dry run in Australia to test the reaction of government and consumer authorities. In the public slanging match that followed between eBay and the regulatory ACCC, eBay spammed users claiming it was fighting for 'safety benefits for consumers.' Fortunately the consumers won. Conceded eBay vice president Simon Smith, 'While we disagree with the ACCC's draft notice, we have decided to withdraw the notification to stop any further confusion and disruption among the eBay community.' Nevertheless eBay insists PayPal is now always offered as a payment option. Have big corporations finally learned that they can go too far? More chillingly, if eBay had launched the sc

Ebay is the largest and most popular online marketplace on earth! And with this, it is only obvious that ebay is highly competitive, for both the Ebay buyers as well as for Ebay sellers. With millions of entries in the eBay store, it is necessary to use appropriate keywords to manage the store. A keyword is nothing but a significant word in the title or description of an item. Therefore, keywords used in the listing needs to be directly relevant to the items being sold. The right keywords will result in your item being pulled up more often by ebay search, the wrong keyword would result in your item being virtually invisible!

Execs at Craigslist felt threatened by eBay and made calculated moves to reduce eBay's equity and decision-making powers in the company, according to eBay's newly-unsealed lawsuit (PDF). eBay says that Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster and founder Craig Newmark "breached their fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and good faith by implementing certain self-dealing transactions... which were designed specifically to benefit themselves to the detriment of eBay." eBay is asking that the courts rescind or declare void the decisions made by Buckmaster and Newmark, and seeks recissory damages, attorney's fees, and other costs involved in filing the suit.

Ok, maybe a penectomy ranks higher on the “ouch” scale than attempting to sell one’s wife, but how about when you list her as “my lying, cheating, adulterous whore of a wife of 26 years” on eBay? Yikes. Not hard to guess the back story on this one.

The entire tech sector is dropping into the red this afternoon, pulled lower by broad-market weakness. One of the largest losers in the group this afternoon is online auctioneer eBay Inc. (EBAY: View sentiment for EBAYsentiment, chart, options) . However, this isn't a good enough reason for the drop at least not in my eyes so I went digging about to find some sort of news for the auction giant. One story I found was that PayPal's Pay Later credit service is now available for EBAY purchasers. As of yesterday, EBAY purchasers in the U.S. can take advantage of Pay Later's financing offer of no payments for 90 days for qualifying purchases between $50 and $199. While this is great news for me and my quest for an authentic 70's-era Bengals jersey (anyone have any leads for me?), I don't see this news as the reason the shares have dropped n

A court in France ordered eBay to pay more than 61 mega-dollars to the parent company (LVMH) of Givenchy, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, because a user sold fake goods on the website. eBay has been sued by other 'luxury goods' vendors (such as Tiffany's (US), Rolex (Germany) and L'Oreal (EU)). Problems stem from some companies demanding that their merchandise (even legal merchandise) not be displayed nor sold as it is a violation of their 'property.' Others have complained that eBay is too slow to take down claims. Apparently eBay was hit with two violations: 1) eBay illegally allowed legitimately purchased and owned products made by LVMH to be resold on its website by 3rd parties not under the control of LVMH, and 2) not doing enough to protect LVMH's brands from illegal sales.
