eBay s Feedback Changes Roll Out in Australia: related news

eBay's Feedback Changes Roll Out in Australia

Sellers on eBay Australia may be feeling like guinea pigs these days. The site is going PayPal-only next month - assuming the policy can get past regulators - and this month's feedback changes are hitting Australia today, the first country to be impacted by the radical changes to the rating system announced in January.

eBay Rolls Out Feedback Changes on Dot Com Site

Feedback changes announced in January were introduced onto eBay.com on Monday as part of a global rollout that began last week in Australia. As of Monday, sellers on eBay.com are prohibited from leaving buyers anything but positive feedback, and eBay has adjusted the way it calculates a member's positive feedback percentage score.

eBay Addresses Questions over New Feedback Changes

Many eBay sellers in the US weren't sure what to expect when they powered up their computers on Monday morning to check their feedback. eBay's latest changes to the rating system had already been rolled out in Australia and the UK, and discussion forums in those countries were flooded with posts from sellers whose positive percentage score had been affected by the changes. Some were elated upon seeing their score had risen - many others were left reaching for the antacid. For the rest of the week, questions about feedback and the impact on PowerSellers continued to pepper the boards, and on Thursday, eBay addressed some of those questions in an Announcement Board post.

New eBay Feedback Changes Scrutinized by Sellers

Buyers and sellers are getting their first taste of the new feedback changes eBay is rolling out globally to its marketplaces by peeking at the Australian site, where changes rolled out on Monday. Users are finding their positive percentage scores are changing, and eBay has rolled out new messaging on to the site to inform buyers of the new policy.

Hang Tight, More eBay Feedback Changes Coming

Sellers could hardly believe their eyes when they read eBay's January 29 manifesto announcing radical changes to the auction site, especially the news that, beginning in May, sellers would no longer be able to leave buyers negative or neutral feedback. eBay posted an update on Wednesday, giving sellers more details - and dropping another bombshell. eBay will no longer allow Mutual Feedback Withdrawal, a procedure that lets buyers and sellers withdraw their feedback ratings by mutual consent. In addition, sellers will no longer be able to use SquareTrade's online dispute resolution service to aid in feedback removal.

eBay to delay roll out of PayPal-only system in Australia - Update

(RTTNews) - Online auctioneer eBay Inc. (EBAY) said Friday that it would delay plans to roll out the PayPal-only policy in Australia to pay for deals on its auction site until July 15, after the government's fair-trading regulator, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, ruled that it would reduce competition. The new policy was due to come into effect next week.

eBay Feedback Changes Getting Negative Feedback

I've been at IRCE for only 6hrs so far and the overwhelming theme around eBay I'm hearing is that eBay's feedback changes are NOT going well.

eBay Showing Sellers the Door?

Wow! Is it our imagination or is eBay (EBAY) showing their sellers the door? Anyone checking their feedback in the last twenty-four hours was in for a quick reality check. While the new changes to feedback increased overall feedback totals, feedback overall percentages (for many) went straight into the toilet. If you were a seller, who was on the cusp of surpassing that magic number (in total feedbacks) to achieve a new star rating, you might have just went from red to purple but, got double-slapped when you noticed that your overall feedback percentage took a whack as well.

EBay Abandons Plans For PayPal Monopoly

An anonymous reader writes "eBay's has lost its fight to ban all payment methods except PayPal. When Paypal originally announced the scheme it was to be global, but they began with a dry run in Australia to test the reaction of government and consumer authorities. In the public slanging match that followed between eBay and the regulatory ACCC, eBay spammed users claiming it was fighting for 'safety benefits for consumers.' Fortunately the consumers won. Conceded eBay vice president Simon Smith, 'While we disagree with the ACCC's draft notice, we have decided to withdraw the notification to stop any further confusion and disruption among the eBay community.' Nevertheless eBay insists PayPal is now always offered as a payment option. Have big corporations finally learned that they can go too far? More chillingly, if eBay had launched the sc

Craigslist's Response To eBay: We Had To Do It!

After eBay sued Craigslist, Craigslist's initial responses were rather weak. eBay made a pretty strong case arguing that Craigslist's board had unilaterally diluted eBay's shares -- which seems pretty questionable. Craigslist initially shot back by accusing eBay of doing the same things eBay was accusing Craigslist of doing -- but that was somewhat misleading. eBay wasn't complaining about the specific actions Craigslist was taking -- but the fact that they had done so unilaterally, despite eBay's ownership stake and board position. Then, Craigslist countersued eBay with a laundry list of charges that effectively amounted to "we don't like them being on our board." Both of these responses were a bit disappointing. While I like Craigslist, and respect Craig and Jim, they still hadn't explained why it was legal for them to unilaterally dilu

eBay Rolls out New Search in UK

eBay is rolling out new search on the UK site (http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200806131509242.html). Rather than bringing back results solely for matching keywords, search will now look at the category an item is listed in and any item specifics the seller provides so that buyers are more likely to find what they want. Users will be able to switch to and from the old and new systems from within the search results pages, but the old search system will be retired in 4 weeks. eBay UK will also roll out Window Shopping (called snapshot view in the US).

Top Australian Seller NARU, Reacts to eBay Feedback Changes

The account of one of the largest sellers of DVDs on eBay Australia and UK has been suspended, or NARU as it's known on the auction site. Phil Leahy, who also heads an organization of eBay sellers, said he stopped trading on eBay about a month ago in order to revamp his operations, and is NARU for not yet having paid his eBay bill.

Developments in eBay Australia Plan to Go PayPal-Only

eBay Australia rolled out the increased buyer protection plan it had promised users when it initially announced it was moving to a PayPal-only marketplace. It had planned to roll out the ban on all payment methods except for PayPal on June 17, but Australian government regulators told eBay last week to hold off on implementing the policy.

eBay Partners with Newspaper Classifieds Site in Australia

eBay Australia announced a "listing distribution" deal between eBay Motors and Drive.com.au that will see the integration of eBay Motors listings onto Drive.com.au and vice versa. The new site is in beta phase at cars2.ebay.com.au.

eBay Changes the Rules of the Game, Again

eBay made a post to its Announcement Board that contains a large number of significant changes to policies. It also said it is rolling out an expanded version of the Seller Dashboard this week, and announced changes to Best Match, eBay's name for the default sort order of search results.

eBay to Launch DSR Feedback on Half.com

eBay announced Wednesday it would be rolling out Detailed Seller Ratings, also known as Feedback 2.0, to its Half.com marketplace in the next couple of months. eBay said it would release more information about the changes "in the next couple of weeks."

eBay Australia Delays PayPal Change Indefinitely

Daehenoc points out news that eBay Australia has postponed their ban on all forms of payment other than PayPal. The ban had already been delayed once, but eBay Australia has now decided to simply wait for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to determine whether or not the move is acceptable. We discussed the beginnings of this story back in April.

eBay Australia Files ACCC Response re PayPal-Only Policy

Ina Steiner notes on AuctionBytes that eBay Australia has filed its response icon_PDF_small.gif to the many submissions received by the Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) inquiry about eBay Australia's new PayPal-only policy slated to go into effect next month. More details about the inquiry and all of the submissions are available on the ACCC web site.
