eBay Lets Sellers Edit Shipping for Multi-Quantity Items

eBay sellers with Store Inventory and Fixed Price multi-quantity listings can now edit these shipping details after a purchase has been made. Prior to Thursday's announcement, sellers were unable to edit shipping information on multi-quantity listing purchases. eBay said there are two exceptions to the new capability: sellers won't be able to edit the sales tax charged, or add/edit Freight shipping details unless Freight was offered when the listing was created.

eBay Picks Buyers Over Small-Time Sellers

Every time we've mentioned eBay lately, we've received a long list of complaints in the comments about how awful eBay is. It's become quite clear that there's plenty of dissatisfaction with the company -- and a big part of the problem seems to be figuring out who eBay is really representing: buyers or sellers. In theory, as an impartial marketplace, eBay should be able to serve both sides. After all, you need both sides to be happy to make the marketplace truly effective. EBay (EBAY) NewsBite - EBay Price Target Slashed

EBay Inc. (EBAY) opened at 27.09. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 25.95 and a high of 27.43. EBAY is now trading at 27.22, down 0.27 (-1.00%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 40.73 in October and set its 52 week low of 25.10 in March. EBAY has been dropping for most of the past year. A RBC Capital Markets analyst cut his price target on the stock today to $35 from $40, and said the effect of deals with large online retailers the company's revenue may be more muted due to less-favorable terms. The company had signed a deal with Buy.com allowing it to sell books, electronics and other items on eBay's Website without paying the full complement of fees. Technical indicators for the stock are bearish but slightly improving while S&P gives EBAY a very positive 5 STARS (out of 5) strong buy rating.

eBay Shows Competitor Listings in Item Pages

eBay is testing new designs of the listing ("View Item") page. One part of the test is a new "merchandising module" that will display additional items from the same seller or from other sellers. eBay said sellers who do not wish to have other sellers' items appear on their item page can opt-out via preferences in My eBay. Opting out would also mean that seller's items would no longer appear on other sellers' pages.

eBay Sellers Appeal to Australia Reserve Bank over PayPal Requirement

Anthony Green, an eBay seller from Australia, sent a letter to the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) requesting it take action with regards to eBay's policy requiring users to offer PayPal on all transactions. Sellers are still fuming over eBay's attempt to make PayPal the exclusive payment service on eBay Australia (referred to as "Stage 2"), which eBay backed away from after a regulatory agency indicated it would not support such a move. However, eBay Australia left its "Stage 1" policy in place, requiring sellers offer PayPal on all transactions.

EBay Deal Irritates Individual Sellers

Dekortage writes "EBay's recent deal with Buy.com appears to be seriously irritating its veteran individual sellers. The deal allows Buy.com and other large fixed-price retailers to list millions of items on eBay without paying listing fees, and appears to be the direction that eBay will follow in the future. Understandably, individual sellers are outraged. 'I've paid eBay many hundreds of thousands in fees over the past several years and believed them when they talked about a level playing field. eBay Supports Sellers With Dramatically Lower Listing Fee

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Business Wire) -- In time for the holiday shopping season, eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) is dramatically lowering - by more than 70 percent - the cost to list an item in eBay's Buy It Now(TM) fixed price format. Sellers will now enjoy a flat rate of 35 cents for a 30-day listing period, up from the previous seven-day standard. Sellers also can now list multiple quantities of the same item for a single 35 cent listing fee; previously, multiple quantities resulted in higher listing fees. This pricing change significantly reduces the upfront cost of listing fixed price items on eBay and bases fees primarily on the successful sale of items.

eBay UK Runs Multiple-Item Listing Promotion

eBay UK is running a promotion to encourage sellers to list multiple identical items. From August 12 - September 23, 2008, sellers may list multiple numbers of identical items within the same listing on eBay.co.uk using the Buy It Now only or Shop Inventory Format and pay only one Insertion Fee for each category. Normally the insertion fee for Multiple-Item listings is based on the opening value of the items - the price multiplied by the quantity of items - with a maximum insertion fee of £1.90.

eBay announced that shipping-solution provider Interapptive has become the newest member of the eBay Certified Provider Program. Interapptive provides ShipWorks, a desktop application that helps sellers bridge the gap between receiving an order and shipping the product. eBay's Product Roadmap reveals eBay's intention to make it easier for large merchants to conduct business on the site. eBay cozies up to sellers with lower fees to try and compete with Amazon

eBay is letting US sellers get visibility on eBay's UK marketplace as part of a 4-day promotion. The International Site Visibility upgrade lets sellers reach buyers in the UK (listings show up in search results on eBay.co.uk) for an additional fee of between 10 and 40 cents, depending on the item's starting price. EBay quarterly profit rises, but shares fall on outlook

Online auction house eBay Inc. said yesterday that its second-quarter profit jumped 22 per cent, as the company enjoyed strong growth in its e-commerce sites and its PayPal payments service. But eBay's outlook for the current quarter was softer than analysts had been forecasting, and the company's shares fell in after-hours trading after closing up $1.21 at $28.10. EBay earned $460-million, or 35 cents a share, compared with $376-million, or 27 cents, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding certain items, eBay earned 43 cents a share. That beat Wall Street's forecast for 41 cents a share. EBay's revenue rose 20 per cent to $2.2-billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had been looking for $2.17-billion. EBay expects third-quarter earnings of 30 cents to 32 cents a share, or 39 cents to 41 cents a share on an adjusted basis, and $2.

PayPal is giving away a year's worth of eBay insertion, final value and PayPal fees to one eBay seller in the UK every month, for the remainder of 2008.
