Columbia Commercial Bancorp Reports Third Quarter 2008 Earnings

Columbia Commercial Bancorp (OTCBB: CLBC), a single bank financial holding company for Columbia Community Bank, reports net income for third quarter 2008 of $386,874, or $0.12 per diluted share, compared to $227,988 and $899,632 for the second and first quarters of 2008, or $0.07 and $0.29 per diluted share, respectively. "Significant loan loss provisions along with margin compression throughout 2008 are the major causes for reduced earnings over the past quarters," states the Company's President and CEO, Rick A. Roby. The Bank's loan loss provision was $950,000 for the third quarter 2008, $1,350,000 for the second quarter 2008, and $380,000 in the first quarter 2008. Carleton University hacker will leave school rather than be punished

A Carleton University student who hacked into the electronic accounts of 32 students to expose the system's security flaws has decided to leave school rather than accept his punishment. Mansour Moufid, a 20-year-old second-year math student, sent a 16-page report to university administrators and students under the pseudonym "Kasper Holmberg" earlier this month, in which he showed that he had accessed the campus card accounts of 32 students in order to encourage the university to improve its security. The university's associate vice-president imposed a number of sanctions on Mr. Moufid for violating school policies, including writing a letter of apology to the students whose accounts he accessed, paying $608 for the cost of new student cards and $2,160 for extra security staff for the residences, and allowing the university to monitor all

LHC election tribunal put off plea against Moonis Elahi

LAHORE: An election tribunal consisting of Justice M Bilal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned hearing till October 23 on an election petition filed by a PPP candidate challenging Moonis Elahi's election from PP-110. Petitioner Nasir Mahmood Samma submitted that he contested against Moonis on the ticket of the PPP while Imranullah was the candidate of the PML-N from the same constituency. He alleged that Gujrat district government of the PML-Q fully supported Moonis and rigged the election. He said his voters were threatened with dire consequences for voting in his favour. He said out of total 127 poling stations, he (Samma) won from 108 poling stations but through rigging Moonis was declared as winning candidate.
