HBO Might Get a Break on iTunes Pricing Rule: related news

HBO Might Get a Break on iTunes Pricing Rule

After years of insisting on standard pricing for digital downloads, Apple is apparently ready to acknowledge that not all television shows are created equal.

HBO Comes to iTunes as Apple Caves on Pricing

Apple has been adamant about pricing of videos on iTunes, and in fact that’s one of the reasons that NBC left the iTunes store and eventually wound up at the Zune Marketplace. But now it appears they have become more flexible, as HBO and Apple announced on Tuesday that HBO shows are now available on iTunes - and some are priced above the $1.99 price Apple had previously set as a ceiling.

HBO & Apple Bring Critically Acclaimed Television Programming to the iTunes Store

NEW YORK and CUPERTINO, Calif., May 13/ -- HBO and Apple today announced that programming from HBO is now available for purchase and download on the iTunes Store ( http://www.itunes.com ). New HBO programs on iTunes include the Emmy Award-winning programs "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City," "Deadwood" and "Rome," as well as the critically acclaimed hits "Flight of the Conchords" and "The Wire." The iTunes Store is the world's most popular online TV store with over 150 million episodes sold and features the world's largest catalog with over 800 shows (over 20,000 episodes).

HBO, NBC may be cracking Apple's uniform iTunes pricing

HBO may soon be making its way to the iTunes Store with its popular TV content, a deal that could make a splash in more ways than one. The agreement could lure the network's exclusive content, such as Entourage, The Wire, and John Adams outside of HBO's own walled garden—and may also indicate that Apple is willing to make exceptions to its rigid, uniform pricing structure for the iTunes Store.

iTunes Hikes Vid Prices with Debut of HBO Content

HBO and Apple have partnered to sell HBO shows on iTunes. Starting today episodes of HBO shows The Wire, Rome, Sex and the City, Flight of the Conchords, The Sopranos, and Deadwood can be purchased for as much as $3. That's a price hike for the standard iTunes pricing for series episodes.

HBO Comes To ITunes With Variable Pricing

thanks to a new deal Apple has inked with HBO. Another bunch of shows on iTunes is not such a big deal, but there is a big change under the hood. Apple has moved away from its fixed pricing model and offers the HBO titles at $1.99 and $2.99 per episode.

Sync your iTunes libraries

iTunes can easily share its content over your local network. But if you want a complete copy of your media library on more than one Mac, you’ll need to synchronize some files. However, merely copying, say, a folder full of AAC files from one Mac to another is not enough; you must also copy the iTunes Library files containing metadata, playlists, and other important information. And therein lies the rub: If you’ve changed the contents of iTunes on both Macs, merely copying the iTunes Library files in one direction or the other (manually or with a file-synchronization utility) won’t synchronize their contents, so neither iTunes library will be correct. For example, songs present on both Macs’ hard disks may not actually show up in iTunes on one Mac or the other, and one Mac’s playlists might entirely overwrite the other’s.

Insiders point to video on French iTunes Store soon

When Apple began adding video content to the German iTunes Store in early April, the country became just the third non-US iTunes Store to get TV shows. But there are more than just three countries where the iTunes music is available (21 by my count), so of course, there is continuing speculation over which country might be the next to get video. That speculation has now centered upon France, as French site ElectronLibre recently reported that video content may appear on the French iTunes Store sometime soon.

UK, Canada get iTunes movie purchases and rentals Earlier this year Apple announced its much-anticipated movie rental service for US customers of the iTunes Store – complementing its direct movie sales business. But though success in this department has been a far cry from that of its digital music store, the video download market is still expanding… and so is the iTunes Store. Starting today, Apple iTunes movies rentals and purchases are also available for customers in both Canada and the UK.

The UK iTunes Store has added a variety of TV shows from NBC/Universal (iTunes link) in spite of their absence from iTunes in the US. Selection is currently limited, but incorporates seasons of Heroes, House, Eureka, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and The Incredible Hulk. Unlike the standard iTunes pricing model, notably, which is consistent across all shows, active shows at the UK store (such as Heroes) are being priced at £1.89 per episode, while defunct ones have a separate rate of only £1.19.
