This process is a fairly easy one, he maintains, because JavaFX Script was designed to enable the use of Java objects and because the necessary instruments are built right into the language. He demonstrates possible ways to create JavaFX objects and to use them in Java code. According to Heinrichs, the first issue to address in designing a system that includes components written in JavaFX Script is the decision about which technology to use for the startup. There is, he writes, no correct answer; that depends on the context. He recommends using a factory as a means of creating JavaFX objects from Java code without relying on calling the constructor, which is a practice that is typically discouraged.

Java is finally Free and Open

This week the IcedTea Project reached an important milestone - The latest OpenJDK binary included in Fedora 9 (x86 and x86_64) passes the rigorous Java Test Compatibility Kit (TCK). This means that it provides all the required Java APIs and behaves like any other Java SE 6 implementation - in keeping with the portability goal of the Java platform. As of writing, Fedora 9 is the only operating system to include a free and open Java SE 6 implementation that has passed the Java TCK. All of the code that makes this possible has been made available to the IcedTea project so everyone can benefit from the work.

Especially Damn Small Linux is very lightweight, but also it's not really usable on 'more recent' systems. It think DSL is perfect for 486 or Pentium 1-based systems but nothing more. At the other side there are Zenwalk and Xubuntu which are pretty heavy lightweight distributions. I think the use of Xfce has something to do with that. All the others are floating between those two extremes."

Apple adds Java SE 6 support to Leopard with new update

When it comes to Java 6, Apple's hasn't exactly been quick to add it to Mac OS X. In fact, Java 6 was released in December 2006, but wasn't added to Tiger or Leopard in 2007. Sure, Apple did release a Developer Preview of the Java 6 JDK, but that wasn't an official consumer release. Apple has finally gotten around to adding Java 6 to Leopard, though, and has released the new Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 with the new version.
