Napier Completes Sale of Its Intellectual Property

Napier Environmental Technologies Inc. ("Napier") has today completed the previously announced sale of its intellectual property ("IP"), as approved by Napier shareholders. The terms of the agreement include the sale of Napier's IP to Freeworld Coatings Global (JSE:FWD) ("Freeworld") together with an option granting Freeworld the rights to the North American sales, marketing and manufacturing operations of Napier, for aggregate consideration of $5.25 million. Of these proceeds, $1,500,000 has been received, a further $3,250,000 is to be received in the third quarter and the balance of $500,000 is being held in an escrow account to be released over the next two years.

China Biggest Threat to Korean Intellectual Property

The most serious threat to the intellectual property of Korean businesses comes from China, especially in the electric and electronics fields, a poll suggests. The survey was conducted by Gallup Korea for the Korean Intellectual Property Office on the overseas intellectual property cases of 1,202 domestic firms. Some 65 percent of all cases happened in China, and 12 percent each in Taiwan and in the United States.

Midway Loses $34.8 Million in Q2

Midway Games today announced its second-quarter fiscal results for the period ended June 30. Net revenues fell from $31.8 million last year at this time to $23.4 million, but the total did exceed Midway's prior guidance of $18 million. The publisher suffered a net loss of $34.8 million for the quarter, more than double last year's $14.3 million. Looking at the entire first half, net loss is an even uglier almost $69 million.
