Take my PDA but leave me the chocolate

One in five female bloggers in the U.S. is officially bonkers according to a recent study from BlogHer/Compass Partners.

Dear Apple: My iPhone Makes a Good Paper Weight

My iPhone makes a good paper weight. Sure, it does a lot of cool stuff like browse the web like a real computer, and sure it's easy and fun to use, but it's useless to me without Exchange support. Exchange is the cornerstone of my mobile life - without it, I'm out of touch. My emails are not sync'ed (unless I use lousy IMAP), my calendar doesn't look right, and oh...if I add a new contact to my desktop, it doesn't show up on my iPhone several seconds later. Sure, I could manually sync all of the above, but road warriors don't have time to manually sync.

iPod Homiletics

For Christmas Mark and Vanessa gave me an iPod Shuffle, a neat little device, smaller than a credit card, in which I can store songs or sermons and listen to them (using the “ear buds” provided with the Shuffle) as I travel. It turned out to be a most practical and welcome gift. Once I got the hang of it, I started taking my iPod with me on every plane flight, and I even take it with me when I ride my bike. So far I have not downloaded any music. I have filled my iPod with sermons from some of America’s best preachers. I’ve listened to a ton of good preaching since January. I’ve tried to cast my net widely by downloading messages (mostly but not exclusively from iTunes) from many different speakers–some I knew, some I didn’t, younger and older, from a variety of denominations–mostly pastors but also some seminary types as

Losing My Religion: Firefox 3

Forgive me, Linux Community, for I have sinned. It has been forever since my last confession and I am prepared for my penance. The truth is that I have never particularly cared for the Firefox browser--not because there is anything wrong with it but just because I already have a favorite browser. No, it isn't the one you think it is. My favorite graphical browser is Konqueror and my favorite text-based browser was--and still is--lynx. Putting my own religious fervor and proselytizing nature aside, my task is to review the new Firefox 3 browser for you.

Can a Virus Retrieve Messages From My Hotmail Account?

Some of my contacts have recently received an email from an unknown sender featuring my full name in the subject and displaying, upon opening the mail, a message I received almost a year ago as an attachment. I deleted the message long ago, but have kept it in my recycle bin. Can it be that someone has gained access to my hotmail? Or does this sound more like a virus/worm? Can a virus or worm retrieve data from my hotmail acct even though I deleted all contacts and e-mails and disabled my hotmail address? Thanks, Morgane

Retrieving Data From Old Amstrad Floppies?

Jeppe Utzon writes "Back in 1987, when I was a teenager in high school still, I spent most evenings, nights and weekends writing small programs in BASIC on my Amstrad CPC 6128. Some of these programs were simple games, some drew graphics, some could help me with math or train me in French — and most were utterly pointless. But I never had as much satisfying fun as when writing those programs — even if no one in my family understood any of it when I proudly displayed the fruits of three sleepless nights of labor. Now, 20 years later, I still have a sealed pack of about 15 disks with all my work on them (along with a few of my favorite games) and I was wondering if it was possible to get the data out somehow so that I could run it in emulation on my Mac.

Aggressive Hacker Attack On My Forum, PayPal, And E-mail Is Obviously Personal

Somebody out there must really be mad at me right now. I don't know what I said or did to deserve any of the things that have happened to me this week, but whatever it is I apologize. Since Monday, I have been under a daily barrage of hacker attacks on my forum, PayPal account, and e-mail account from someone who no doubt is holding a grudge against me since they are doing their best to make my life a living Hell.

Take-Two Interactive Software Advises Stockholders To Take No Action In Response To Electronic Arts Offer

New York, NY - March 13, 2008 -The Board of Directors of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today recommended that Take-Two stockholders take no action at this time in response to the announcement by Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) that it has made an unsolicited conditional tender offer to acquire all of Take-Two's outstanding shares of common stock for $26 per share in cash.

Take-Two Says Electronic Arts' Offer Undervalues Take-Two

said Electronic Arts Inc.'s (ERTS) unsolicited offer to purchase all of Take-Two's outstanding shares "fails to compensate" shareholders. Take-Two, a New York developer of interactive entertainment software, said its board's recommendation for shareholders to not tender shares remains unchanged. Electronic Arts, an interactive entertainment software company, reduced its offer to $25.74 from $26 after Take-Two shareholders approved amendments to the company's Incentive Stock Plan. Shares of Take-Two traded recently at $26.04, up 19 cents, or 0.7%. End of Story

Canon IXUS 90 IS Arrives

Arriving at the TrustedReviews office in the mornings can sometimes feel like Christmas - I know that sounds strange but bear with me on this one. Take today for instance. I arrived at my desk to find a small package sitting on it, and inside was a lovely present from Santa - OK, so it was from Canon and not Santa, but that kind of spoils my analogy! What Father Canon and his merry bunch of reindeer left for me today was the brand new IXUS 90 IS, and had this actually been Christmas morning, I probably would have been quite chuffed.

Option activity on priceline.com (PCLN) spikes ahead of Thursday's earnings report

I may have said before that William Shatner creeps me out, and it is a deep-seeded fear. I'm not sure why, but I think some of it could go back to the famous Twilight Zone episode featuring Shatner, or it could be this gem. My Shatnerphobia had waned for a while, as I am not an aficionado of Boston Legal, but the fear was piqued when I saw a priceline.com (PCLN: View sentiment for PCLNsentiment, chart, options) commercial recently. Seriously, Shatner ... on a scooter ... with a goon in the sidecar? That makes me want to name my own price for travel? I think not, but the idea has caught on, and PCLN is thriving.

Life is More Complex than Art

As an actor, I enjoy playing roles, because it gives me the chance to imagine what it would be like to be another person or to live in another set of circumstances. Sometimes, I draw on my life to create my characters. This year I had the opportunity to help write and then act in "Both Sides of the Family," a play about interfaith marriage. Though much of my character was drawn from imagination and not from my life, I found the experience of writing and acting the character, and entering into post-performance discussions with audiences, gave me a chance to reflect on my recently-dissolved second marriage.

EA Launches 'Hostile' Bid for GTA Publisher

Games news sites are reporting that EA has issued a new offering to Take-Two's shareholders in an attempt to purchase the company outright. Last month EA offered some $2 billion to Take-Two in an effort to accomplish the same goal. Take-Two declined, and EA took their offer public. Now, Electronic Arts is offering the price of some $26 per share to Take-Two's holders, a generous valuation. "Within ten business days Take-Two is required by law to publish, send or give to shareholders (and file with the Securities and Exchange Commission), a statement as to whether it recommends acceptance or rejection of the latest offer ... Since EA launched its February bid Take-Two said that other parties had approached it regarding a merger, but that it hadn't entered into negotiations with other companies about a deal.

Encryption

Im really in need of help right now. I like trying new programs out an I have been since I got my HP 111 classic. Satisfied with the programs I often use I decided to do a hard reset to take all the junk out such as recent programs I unstalled etc. I set my pda to encrypt everything I put on my SD card when I started collage an now I did a hard reset, most of my stuff don't get read because their encrypted. I tried everything I can think of with no luck, can someone help me please.... Thank you.

What I've Learned From Amazon.com

Have you ever purchased something from Amazon.com? If so, have you noticed their follow-up process? If I’ve bought something that was shipped through an outside vendor, and not through Amazon’s own facilities, I receive an e-mail within days of delivery asking me to rate the experience. I also get periodic e-mails from them with suggestions of items I might be interested in purchasing, based on my past buying habits. (This only freaks me out occasionally when I feel as if someone is actually watching me a bit too closely, but I tend to not let that bother me.) I’m also able to easily track the delivery of my purchases online and can even see which city the package is in and when it was loaded on the truck for delivery. Talk about a customized experience.

Take-Two tells shareholders to take no action on Electronic Arts' tender offer

NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. Thursday said its board is advising shareholders to "take no action at this time" in response to Electronic Arts' unsolicited tender offer to acquire Take-Two shares for $26 each in cash.

Don't say 'I do' to car loan for fiance

My fiance has bad credit, but I have excellent credit. He wants to buy a truck, but it will take months to fix his credit report and receive a low interest rate. Should I take an auto loan in my name, and assign him the title of the truck? Is this even possible to do?

Take-Two advises shareholders to take no action

Following EA's unsolicited conditional tender offer to acquire all of Take-Two's outstanding shares of common stock for $26 per share in cash, the Take-Two board of directors has advised shareholders to take no action at this time.

NY Times uncovers bloggers who find startups, real life hard

My head is spinning, but not because I'm the Editor-in-Chief of this site, clocking mad hours, and spending many a sleepless night. Nay, it's spinning after the dozen or so "rolleyes" I dropped reading Matt Ritchel's "In Web World of 24/7 Stress, Writers Blog Till They Drop," in today's NY Times. The article is fun, but also a bit of a nipple-twister, leaving you laughing but also in need of punching someone in the face. (Fortunately we learn that our pal Brian Lam, EIC of Gizmodo, is used to being punched in the face, so I'm gonna take him up on the offer next time I see him.) But I digress...

We build them tough here in Africa

In my spare time, in between my full time job, my writing, my mothering and the occasionally wifely duties, I run a blog that I update daily. Amazingly enough, over 4,000 people a day from all over the world log on to my blog to read about the life and times of me.

Has anyone ever bought an air guitar on Ebay, and if so, was it good quality?

To me, purchasing items on e-bay is always a gamble. You're taking a chance buying something sight unseen. Although, you should take into account that "you get what you pay for." And so my guitar purchase-it was a definite dud. I knew I would be getting a cheap instrument because the bid was only $.01 (that's right, one cent!), but the shipping cost was about $25. I just wanted a guitar that sounded half-way decent for me to play at my job as a preschool teacher. Oh, and I also liked the fact that the guitar was....purple.

When an attorney drops the ball

I had my bankruptcy filed in May 2006. I was told at my 341 meeting that I was discharged by my trustee. However, I got dismissed for failure of my attorney to file my Financial Management Certificate, after it was faxed to him on three separate occasions. My attorney will not answer or return any calls. He's always with other clients. How do I get this corrected and get discharged?

How this blog saved my life and saved me $100,000

A few months back, I told you about how my neck had gone bad, really bad. At that time, I was in the middle of a six-month dive into pain, alleviated only by gobbling unwholesome quantities of Percoset. Three weeks ago last Friday, I had an amazing surgery that relieved my pain and gave me a neck that feels 20 years younger. And it was all because of this blog.
