Apple Sells One Million iPhones: related news

Apple Sells One Million iPhones

Apple, Inc. continued building hype around its iPhone 3G, with one million sold in three days and 10 million downloads from Apple's new App Store. Apple CEO Steve Jobs called the opening weekend "stunning" and the App Store a "grand slam." But an analyst noted that the hype helps blur the iPhone's pitfalls and growing competition.

Apple Sells One Million iPhones, So What?

Everyone's reporting how remarkable it is that Apple was able to sell a million iPhones in just five days, but let's think about this for a moment, shall we? As TechDirt politely points out, though, it would have been newsworthy had it been a US-only event, it wasn't, it was global, with millions of people eligible to get the new handset. It's also very worth pointing out that globally Nokia sells 1.28 million phones a day. So let's re-ork the champagne until we hit the 100 million mark. [TechDirt]

Rogers, Apple see big sales of iPhone

Rogers Wireless Communications Inc. sold out of its initial iPhone stock in a handful of Canadian cities over the weekend after it began selling Apple Inc.'s popular touch screen cellphone on Friday. Rogers declined to prove specific sales figures, however Apple said that more than one million iPhones were sold around the globe during the first three days of sales in 21 countries. "IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs said in a statement. Apple also announced that more than 10 million applications were downloaded through the company's new App Store, which sells programs and games designed to work on the next-generation iPhone. Apple Not Selling iPhones in Canadian Apple Stores on Launch Day

Apple's apparently so fed up with the high pricing that Rogers is shoving into Canadian iPhone owners' faces that there will be no iPhone 3Gs sold at Apple Stores in Canada this Friday. This follows up Apple's previous action of diverting stock from Canada to Europe, and really sets the tone that they're unhappy with Rogers' $60 for 150 minutes, 75 SMS messages and 400MB data plan. So what's the deal? Canadians who still want one will have to line up early to get one of the 10-20 units per store that Rogers is getting. If we were you, we'd stay home and wait for Rogers to admit defeat, stop slapping its customers in the face and lower its prices. [Apple Insider]

Psystar Will Countersue Apple

An anonymous reader sends us to CNet for news that Apple clone maker Pystar plans to countersue Apple. We discussed Apple's suit last month. "Mac clone maker Psystar plans to file its answer to Apple's copyright infringement lawsuit Tuesday as well as a countersuit of its own, alleging that Apple engages in anticompetitive business practices. Miami-based Psystar... will sue Apple under two federal laws designed to discourage monopolies and cartels, the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Clayton Antitrust Act, saying Apple's tying of the Mac OS to Apple-labeled hardware is 'an anticompetitive restraint of trade,' according to [an] attorney...
