Apple's apparently so fed up with the high pricing that Rogers is shoving into Canadian iPhone owners' faces that there will be no iPhone 3Gs sold at Apple Stores in Canada this Friday. This follows up Apple's previous action of diverting stock from Canada to Europe, and really sets the tone that they're unhappy with Rogers' $60 for 150 minutes, 75 SMS messages and 400MB data plan. So what's the deal? Canadians who still want one will have to line up early to get one of the 10-20 units per store that Rogers is getting. Psystar Will Countersue Apple

An anonymous reader sends us to CNet for news that Apple clone maker Pystar plans to countersue Apple. We discussed Apple's suit last month. "Mac clone maker Psystar plans to file its answer to Apple's copyright infringement lawsuit Tuesday as well as a countersuit of its own, alleging that Apple engages in anticompetitive business practices. Miami-based Psystar... will sue Apple under two federal laws designed to discourage monopolies and cartels, the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Clayton Antitrust Act, saying Apple's tying of the Mac OS to Apple-labeled hardware is 'an anticompetitive restraint of trade,' according to [an] attorney... Psystar is requesting that the court find Apple's EULA void, and is asking for unspecified damages."

Updated: Apple Will Not Sell iPhone 3G In Its Canadian Stores In Protest Of High Service Fees

This isn’t exactly the biggest protest that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) could have waged against Rogers Wireless, but it’s getting a ton of attention. Reports today are claiming that the iPhone-maker will refuse to sell the new 3G version of the phone in Apple retail stores on Friday because it is protesting the higher-than-average service plans for the device that Rogers intends to charge. AppleInsider.com reports that “Apple, disgusted with Rogers Wireless for dumping egregious service plans on would-be iPhone 3G buyers, has decided that its Canadian retail stores will have no part in helping the carrier market the new handset to customers.” AppleInsider said it got this information during a late phone call with Apple last night; representatives from Rogers have not yet responded to emails seeking comment.

That means that the combined value of all Apple's outstanding shares of stock exceeded the combined value of all Google's outstanding shares of stock. Apple's stock is worth $157 billion and change vs. Google's $156 billion. Other companies Apple has surpassed in market cap include Cisco, HP, and Intel. Also, Apple is now worth 3 times the value of Dell Computer, despite Dell's founder and CEO declaring over a decade ago that if he ran Apple, he'd 'shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.'"

The Washington Post's Security Fix blog reports that Apple researcher Charles Edge was to present on flaws in Apple's FileVault encryption plan, but asked Black Hat to cancel the talk, citing confidentiality agreements with Apple. Then on Friday, Apple pulled its security engineering team out of a planned public discussion on the company's security practices — which would have been a first for Apple. 'Marketing got wind of it, and nobody at Apple is ever allowed to speak publicly about anything without marketing approval,' a Black Hat spokesman said."

Rogers Wireless Communications Inc. sold out of its initial iPhone stock in a handful of Canadian cities over the weekend after it began selling Apple Inc.'s popular touch screen cellphone on Friday. Rogers declined to prove specific sales figures, however Apple said that more than one million iPhones were sold around the globe during the first three days of sales in 21 countries. "IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs said in a statement. Apple has confirmed that the iPhone will become officially available in Russia in 2009, reports Prime-Tass, citing Yevgeny Butman, the chief executive of Apple's official distributor in Russia, Apple IMC, in Vedomosti. It has also been preliminarily reported that the 8 gigabyte version of the 3G iPhone, which currently retails for around US$299 in the United States, could cost up to around US$2,000 in Russia, although no official details have yet been confirmed. Each of Russia's three largest mobile operators—Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), VimpelCom and MegaFon—are in talks with Apple about selling the iPhone next year. The model has already unofficially debuted in the Russian market, with around 470,000 having been privately imported and unlocked to work on any mobile network.

Best Buy to be first chain to sell coveted iPhone

Best Buy Co. will start selling the iPhone on Sept. 7, becoming first U.S. chain to do so outside of Apple Inc.'s and AT&T Inc.'s own stores. The announcement, expected today expands the availability of Apple's vaunted phone to 970 full-size stores and 16 smaller Best Buy Mobile stores. It's also a coup for the Minneapolis-based chain, which has been upgrading its cellphone departments. Apple sells out of iPhones in all but 3 locations

In less than 10 days since its problem-plagued launch, Apple has sold out of stock of iPhones in all of its stores except three, including every state except New York, California, and New Hampshire. Apple notes that on Monday none of its 137 locations in the US will have stock of the 8GB iPhone and that the only location to have the 16GB black iPhone will be its retail store in Pleasanton, California (Stoneridge Mall). The only other two stores to have stock of the iPhone are the retail locations in Salem, New Hampshire (Rockingham Park) and New York City (Fifth Avenue) -- both of which only have the 16GB white iPhone model.

Apple offers iPhone 2.0.2 update via iTunes

Apple on Monday released iPhone 2.0.2, an update to its second-generation software for the original iPhone and iPhone 3G. The update is about 242MB and first appeared via iTunes just after 5PM EST. As is usually the case with iPhone updates, Apple provided few details, saying simply that the update contains "bug fixes," and links to existing online iPhone support resources. Over the weekend the company seeded iPhone v2.1b4, a private beta, to developers, but removed the much anticipated 'push" feature that would allow applications to respond to internet triggers (new email, an IM, etc.) without being open. The major software update along with the unique "push service" was announced in June 2008 at Apple's WWDC and was expected to launch in September, according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
