The instructions indicate that iPhone users in the US will not need to transfer their SIM card (a new one will be provided with the iPhone 3G) and describes how to transfer settings, personal info, SMS messages, and other data to the new device using iTunes' backup iPhone feature.

America Movil Secures iPhone Deal; Unlocked iPhones Continue To Dog Apple And Partners

The Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone deals are coming in thick and fast. Days after Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) announced a 10-country deal to carry the iPhone, and Telecom Italia said it too would sell the device in Italy, comes news that Mexico telecoms firm America Movil will bring the device to its Latin American operations later this year, which includes over a dozen countries. Again, like the Vodafone deal, no mention if this is exclusive or not. Bloomberg reports, however, that Apple’s latest agreement won’t have a significant impact on iPhone sales. According to Yankee Group analyst Willy Swain most people in the region who can afford the device already have one—that is an unlocked one.

iPhone 2.0 Upgrade Will Backfire On Apple

Keep the iPhone you already have - here's why. I had an interesting "iPhone 3G debate" over drinks this evening with a passionate, but less than thrilled, iPhone user. I'll call him "Don". Don, like every other iPhone owner, was debating whether or not to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G or stick with the iPhone he already had. Don's verdict? Keep the current iPhone. The reason? Freedom of choice of cell phone carriers, and iPhone 2.0 software works fine on his existing iPhone.
