Ben Rothke writes "It is 2008 and never has so much been spent in information security. Year after year, more and more security hardware and software is purchased, more and more security professionals are hired, and more security is done; yet things are not getting better. Every indicator, every pundit, everything points to more security breaches, vulnerabilities and incidents. Large amounts of proprietary data are compromised on a daily basis. Obviously something is wrong, yet the entire industry goes along thinking things are getting better and more secure. Obviously something needs to change. And that new change is what The New School of Information Security attempts to conceive."

Like sentinels at their posts, an array of buoys equipped with underwater microphones and other sensors will be on duty in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary off the coast of Massachusetts for the next 30 months, recording sounds from whales, fish, ships and other sources around the clock. NOAA marine mammal scientists will analyze the biological sounds to help develop a global monitoring network for ocean noise, an important step in effectively managing marine sanctuary resources and protecting endangered species like the North Atlantic right whale.

As we draw nearer to the iPhone 2.0 software release, we slowly but surely learn more and more about the upgrade that makes us more and more anxious for it's June release. Be it coming from Apple officially, lucky people who get to toy around with beta builds of the firmware, or hackers who are working on it as we speak. More and more it looks like it's fair to say that a 3g model will be released in conjunction with 2.0 as well it looks like Apple is getting closer to fixing the qualms most people have with this amazing device. Over the past few days we've been hearing quite a bit on the near future of the device, what have we been hearing?

As an actor, I enjoy playing roles, because it gives me the chance to imagine what it would be like to be another person or to live in another set of circumstances. Sometimes, I draw on my life to create my characters. This year I had the opportunity to help write and then act in "Both Sides of the Family," a play about interfaith marriage. Though much of my character was drawn from imagination and not from my life, I found the experience of writing and acting the character, and entering into post-performance discussions with audiences, gave me a chance to reflect on my recently-dissolved second marriage.

Meteorite impacts are often associated with huge disasters, mass extinction and why the dinosaurs disappeared from the face of the Earth some 65 million years ago. However, the opposite may also occur – that new and more varied animal life arises following such a catastrophe, is shown by new research conducted by the Natural History Museum of Denmark, University of Copenhagen.

Online business cannot survive without targeted traffic. The more traffic you have, the more your sales will go up. Let me rephrase this, more targeted visitors you have, more sales you will make. You do not need any traffic. You need a certain type of visitors to your site. Basically you need visitors who are more likely to buy what you are selling. For example, if you are selling computer related products, you need to get those people who are likely to end up buying something from your site. In other words, you need to get targeted traffic.

It seems to be a pain point because as we put more and more on the IT backbone and more protocols including voice and physical security devices in addition to IP, it is more complex and crowded. Most people I talk to say firewalls are not doing anything. We have to figure out what’s wrong with them and what needs to be done. It seemed to be a good thing to ask a few smart people. This is informal socialization with peers in industry. We did a couple of two-hour sessions in Chicago and Seattle and are looking to do something more online, perhaps a Webinar and a few other locations live.
