attosecond leads measured new quantum research tunneling way
In a recent paper the experimental physicist Ursula Keller described how circularly polarized light can be used to measure events in the attosecond range. A measurement of this kind could perhaps soon give an experimental answer to the question of whether a measurable tunnelling time of electrons as a result of the tunnelling effect really exists – one of the big unsolved riddles of physics.

Online TV show content is emerging as an effective way to target new-vehicle buyers, according to a survey by J. D. Power and Associates. It found that 68% of new-vehicle buyers go online to find information on television shows, and that the reach of online TV show content among new-vehicle buyers has increased by 22% since 2007. "As the automotive market struggles in the current economy, it becomes important for manufacturers and advertisers to target the diminishing number of consumers who are seeking to buy a new vehicle," said Arianne Walker, director of marketing and media research at J. D. Power and Associates. The firm forecasts that fewer than 15 million new vehicles will be sold in 2008, compared with 16.1 million last year.

A new way to search the web was unveiled on Sunday. The new service, called Cuil (sounds like "cool"), is the brainchild of four former Google search experts. What Cuil brings to the table is a new way to search based on each page's content instead of relying on links and traffic patterns. Cuil claims that its technology can index a greater portion of the Web far cheaper and faster than can Google. In fact, Cuil claims to have indexed 120 billion Web pages compared to the 40 billion currently indexed by Google. Another difference is that Cuil claims it has no need to store user information based on previous web searches because it focuses on content and not click history. Whether it can post a serious threat to Google remains to be seen as challenging the giant is a daunting task as even the likes of Microsoft have discovered.
