April 17, 2008 - Sales figures for the month of March are in from the NPD Group. Nintendo continues to dominate hardware sales, with North Americans picking up more than 721,000 Wii systems and 698,000 Nintendo DS units in the month of March. PlayStation Portable came in third with 297,000 units, followed by the Xbox 360 with 262,000 systems last month. The battle is getting closer for the PlayStation 3 as it came in oh-so-close to the Xbox 360 in March: 257,000 systems sold through to consumers. And bringing up the rear is the last generation of PlayStation, with PS2s still selling impressive numbers: 216,000 PS2 systems sold to consumers in March.

GameStop projects 2008 earnings of $2.25 to $2.34 a share, with total sales rising 19% to 21% and comparable-store sales growing 10% to 12%.

New Movies And TV Shows For Xbox 360 In March

The Gamerscoreblog site has posted up word on what new movies and TV shows will be available to download for Xbox 360 owners in March. According to the post, "monthly sales are up more than 70% since September, 2007 and doubling month over month" (specific numbers were not revealed). Among the highlights are the Robot Chicken: Star Wars special on March 4 (released two months before it appears on DVD), new episodes of South Park beginning the week of March 10 and a free episode of the upcoming series Lewis Black: Root of All Evil (between March 13- March 20). ABC Family debuts on March 10 on the service with episodes of Kyle XY and Greek. As far as movies, classic films like Unforgiven and Bull Durham and new movies like Into the Wild and Gone Baby Gone will debut in both SD and HD versions.

U.S. sales of video game hardware and software rose 57%in March from a year earlier, industry data showed on Thursday, evidence that the industry has so far been immune to wider economic woes. Sales of gaming hardware, software and accessories hit $1.7 billion in March, led by Nintendo's Wii console, which posted its biggest non-holiday month ever, according to market research firm NPD. "You'd never know that the U.S. economy was under distress by looking at the video games industry sales figures," NPD analyst Anita Frazier said in a statement. U.S. consumers snapped up 720,000 Wiis, driven in part by the release of Nintendo's critically acclaimed "Super Smash Bros. Brawl", which was the top-selling game with 2.7 million copies sold.

E-commerce sales for 2007 reached $136.4 bln

Total e-commerce sales for 2007 were estimated at $136.4 bln, an increase of 19.0% from 2006,according to the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce. Total retail sales in 2007 increased 4.0% from 2006. E-commerce sales in 2007 accounted for 3.4% of total sales; in 2006, e-commerce sales accounted for 2.9% of total.

McAfee sales top estimates

McAfee, the second-biggest maker of security software, reported first-quarter revenue that topped estimates after hiring more sales representatives to win customers. Sales gained 17 percent to $369.6 million, beating the $351.6 million average estimate of 20 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Net income declined 27 percent to $31.6 million, or 19 cents a share, from $43.4 million, or 27 cents, a year earlier, said Santa Clara-based McAfee in a statement Thursday. The company hired more salespeople and increased incentives, Chief Executive Officer Dave DeWalt said today in a conference call. Revenue from corporate customers climbed 16 percent, while consumer sales rose 19 percent. International sales accounted for 49 percent of revenue, the company said.
