Yamaha has launched the YDS-11SL iPod dock, which allows users to play the digital music stored on their iPods via their home theater system. The dock is made to connect to Yamaha's receivers as well as the company's YSP-3050 speaker bar, providing full control via the home theater electronics maker's remote. The iPod screen comes up on users' video displays via Yamaha's On-Screen Display visual interface.

Apple has considered making a new dock for the iPhone and iPod touch that would let the device work for video without compromising its ability to be charged, according to a just-published US patent application. Though cosmetically similar to the translucent stand included with the iPod touch, the purely visual patent also shows a Dock Connector cable plugged into the stand, suggesting that it could be used to power and sync a given device while watching movies, rather than just holding the player on its side.

The iPhone (both 2.5G and 3G) might not come with an A2DP Bluetooth in place, but you can easily add it on yourself with this Infinixx adapter. It's $62, but works with the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod video, iPod color and iPod mini, meaning you can basically turn any fairly recent iPod into a wireless stereo device. You can also pair your Bluetooth headset to the iPhone directly to answer calls, which isn't supported through the dongle transmitter. (Review) - Yesterday, we had the opportunity to review Apple's 3rd generation iPod Nano, and needless to say, we came away impressed with the latest carnation of the iPod family. Apple is too good at what it does, and it shows. Today, we have the iPod Classic in our lab, and unfortunately, we don't know what to write about. Yes, it's a rarity with us, considering how we love to publish our opinions, but there's nothing differentiating between the 3rd generation iPod Nano and iPod Classic. Other than the larger display, higher storage capacity and an overall increase in size, both devices are identical to one another. Of course, that's a good thing, for the most part.

Memorex rolls two budget iPod clock radios...

Memorex hopes to push down the cost of iPod-aware clock radios today with two relative budget models. The iWakeUp is the range leader with a relatively streamlined look and the most advanced features, including dual alarms for weekdays versus weekends and a sound enhancer for its more powerful speakers. Like many iPod-ready radios, it can also set the alarms to trigger either the iPod itself, an AM or FM radio station, or a buzzer. The device is compatible with most all dockable iPods up to the iPod touch, though the company shows an iPhone in the dock and hints at possible support for at least Airplane Mode. The iWakeUp sells today for $70 in black and white versions.

Belkin today rounded out its announcements with the formal launch of the GoStudio. Effectively an all-in-one podcast studio, the hand-portable device has built-in stereo microphones and records audio directly to newer click wheel iPods as the storage medium. By tapping the iPod's built-in audio recording features, the GoStudio offloads the software work to the iPod and also lets it immediately play back recordings through integrated speakers on the GoStudio. Users can also mix in some or all the audio from up to two XLR microphones (with quarter-inch support) or a single 3.5mm microphone.
