Sony sets final sales target

Sony's console chief executive Kaz Hirai has ambitions, and big ones: he's set a target of selling 150 million PlayStation 3's (long-term), aiming to surpass the PS2's record of 140m (the PS1 reached 102m). Currently, the console is barely one-tenth of the way there, with sales of 12.85m as of March. But Sony, bless their little hearts, are willing to face the cold:

Sony rising: PS3 opens up lead on Xbox 360 in July

The July NPD sales numbers have been released, and as always, Nintendo dominates in every way, while Microsoft and Sony battle it out for a distant second place. The industry continues to see large growth year over year, with a 35 percent jump in sales for the year to date, and an impressive 48 percent jump in software sales alone. With the large difference between the sales of Nintendo's hardware and software and its two main competitors, one could easily make an argument that Nintendo is to be thanked for much of that growth.

Sony KDL-32XBR6 32-inch LCD

Depending on the source you read, Sony is among the top television sellers in the United States. Ever since the fabled Trinitron (introduced way back in 1968 if you can believe it), the company is practically synonymous with TV. After a few missteps several years ago as it let the flat-panel parade go by, Sony got its Mojo back and now has dozens of flat panel sets ranging from 11-inch OLEDs to a 70-inch LCD for a cool $30K. In between are more models than you can shake a remote at or possibly try to remember. However, if you're looking for Sony's best, think XBR Series-which is what we did when we wanted to test a compact HDTV that could neatly fit in a small apartment's living room or bedroom. Sony usually puts its best video and sound processing in the XBR line-up and the KDL-32XBR6 has the Bravia 2 Engine, Advanced Contrast Enhancer (
