Bad news spreads fast in today's world, so when Sony released the 2.40 PS3 firmware update last week it wasn't long before reports of problems started to emerge, with some being unlucky enough to brick their console with the update. Sony therefore made the decision to take down the 2.40 update while they ironed out the problems, with the result being today's 2.41 firmware. Sony are now confident that the issues with 2.40 have been resolved, and have extended their apologies to the Playstation community for any inconvenience caused. 2.41 doesn't add any additional features over 2.40, and Sony hasn't said what it will do about the consoles that were bricked by the 2.40 firmware yet.

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly. We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

Here’s the theory: Sony creates a firmware update designed to enhance the PS3’s functionality and, more to the point, your gaming pleasure. The process of doing so should, in theory again, involve thoroughly testing the update in order to wheedle out every last nasty bug so that the update is 100% stable when it’s finally released. So that’s the theory. Can you see where we’re going with this yet...?

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Internet Explorer users ranked last in terms of safe browsing.
