Sony has its eye on the education market. The company recently launched a new program, called "Eye on Education," aimed at providing discounts, support, and other benefits to K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions on its displays and projectors.

It's all about the cameras today with Sony leading out two new compact piccie grabbers from their photographic stables. Part of the Cyber-shot range, they go by the names of the Sony Cyber-shot T700 and the Sony Cyber-shot T77 and just to confuse matters even more, Sony Ericsson brought out the their new T700 mobile today. Yeah, that caused a little fun for a while.

Sony Professional Solutions appoints channel development manager

Sony Ireland has appointed David Byrne to the position of channel development manager for video-conferencing and CCTV within its business division, Sony Professional Solutions. David joins Sony Ireland Ltd from Digicom where he held the position of corporate sales - audio-visual consultant. Commenting on the appointment, Raj Pandya, general manager, B2B Channels, Sony UK, said: "David's appointment marks the further growth of Sony Professional Solutions in the Irish market. His expertise in introducing new business channels to the Irish market will assist greatly in driving forward the new business division and we are delighted to welcome him to the Irish team".

Sony Launches PS3 Video Store - Somewhere an ISP exec dreams of per-byte billing

Sony has launched the Playstation 3 video store, bringing yet another broadband video delivery avenue to market. The store offers roughly 300 movies in both standard and high-definition formats for rental, ranging from $2.99 to $5.99. TV shows can be purchased for $1.99 and up, while films can be purchased for between $9.99 and $14.99. One leg up on Microsoft: videos purchased through the store can be transferred to Sony's PSP handheld game unit. Some additional information is available in the Sony press release:

Sony To Sponsor Speed Skater Klassen

Sony of Canada Ltd. is sponsoring Canadian Olympic speed-skating sensation Cindy Klassen, with six medals, Canada's most decorated Olympian. The athlete will represent Sony at events, appear in campaigns, and use the company products to promote the Sony brand. Sony Corp will invest $369 million (40 billion yen) to power up its lithium-ion battery production operations, adding new facilities and augmenting existing lines.
