Sony's start into the world of Digital SLRs was quite a slow paced one. The first Sony branded model, the A100, appeared on the scene in June 2006 and it took over a year for it to be joined by a companion, the A700 prosumer model which was launched in September 2007. More recently though Sony has stepped up a gear and launched not one, but three cameras to replace the A100 - the DSLR A200, A300 and A350.

Bad news spreads fast in today's world, so when Sony released the 2.40 PS3 firmware update last week it wasn't long before reports of problems started to emerge, with some being unlucky enough to brick their console with the update. Sony therefore made the decision to take down the 2.40 update while they ironed out the problems, with the result being today's 2.41 firmware. Sony are now confident that the issues with 2.40 have been resolved, and have extended their apologies to the Playstation community for any inconvenience caused. 2.41 doesn't add any additional features over 2.40, and Sony hasn't said what it will do about the consoles that were bricked by the 2.40 firmware yet.

With the recent announcement of the 8.1MP C905, Sony Ericsson has made yet another leap forward in the race to dispense of compact cameras by way of integrating increasingly more sophisticated imaging devices into a conventional mobile phone handset. One of the appealing facets of Sony Ericsson is its approach to innovation – rather than solely pursue the ‘bottom line’ megapixel count, Sony Ericsson has instead added further functionality to its handsets, as can be seen in the all-singing, all-dancing C902. Sony Ericsson took a large step forward with the previously reviewed K850i, insofar as the handset featured dedicated camera operating buttons allowing quick access to functions such as scene modes and flash operation, and much the same rings true with the C902.

The New York Times is talking up a new experiment that Sony is running with the movie Hancock. Before the movie is even available for rental, owners of a specific Sony television with a special "internet package" (only $299) will be able to download the movie for a fee (as if the $299 weren't already enough). The New York Times piece seems to go out of its way to make Sony look like it's made some huge breakthrough with this offering, in part because it brings together the content side of the business with the consumer electronics side -- two groups that not only rarely spoke, but were often at odds with each other on certain projects. On that part, perhaps it is a step forward -- but for the overall market, this seems like a big step backwards.
