Sony Cuts Price on Fancy S550 Blu ray Player Still No Dealzmodo: related news

Sony Cuts Price on Fancy S550 Blu-ray Player (Still No Dealzmodo)

Yesterday Sony dropped the $400 BDP-S350 Blu-ray player to $300, a fair line to cross. Today Sony made the next logical step, dropping its $500 BDP-S550 to $400. It's a sizeable price decrease, and it comes well before Thanksgiving, indicating that there could easily be another sweet drop. I'm still more of a fan of the S350, though, now that both are BD-Live capable. That extra $100 for the S550 only gets you a 1GB Memory Vault ($12.99 on Amazon), a 7.1-analog output, DTS-Master Audio decoding and a light-up remote. Oh, and the product itself won't ship until the end of October when, who knows, another price cut may hit. [SonyStyle]

Sony is quilty of deceptive propaganda. Blu-ray video quality is only slightly better than standard DVD. For most people, this does not justify switching to Blu-ray. The picture of Blu-ray is no where near 'picture perfect' as advertised. You want picture perfect? Try HD-DVD where the video quality is equal to or better than the big screen. I know this because I own both a blu-ray player and a HD-DVD player plugged through the same 56" Samsung TV with gold-plated HDMI cables. I've decided to stop purchasing blu-ray discs until the picture is improved to rival that of HD-DVD.

The Sony BDP-S350 is the latest Blu-ray player from the company that invented the format. This is an upgrade from its previous entry-level model, the BDP-S300, offering more features and options. The blue brushed-aluminum faceplate, similar to the design of the top-end ES series, is attractive and elegant and sure to add some class to all your black components.

Sony burns Blu-ray at 8X with BWU-300S

Sony already has the world best selling Blu-ray player in PlayStation 3, which is hardly surprising since it is the head of the group promoting Blu-ray. Blu-ray still fairly rare to see on the computer market, but as development moves forward, prices should come down, eventually. The latest internal burner from Sony, BWU-200S, has gone from 4X burn speed to 8X, which is in line with the

Report Surfaces Regarding External Blu-ray Add-on for Xbox 360

Ever since Microsoft stopped producing external HD-DVD drives for the Xbox 360, rumors have been floating around in abundance that the gaming giant would go Blu-ray in the future. Despite the company repeatedly stating that they have no plans to go Blu-ray nor feeling the need to do so, and then turning around and saying that they “might” if the demand were high enough, a report released by Xbit Labs this morning seems to have put all of this to bed. According to the report, Toshiba - who have long held out on making Blu-ray players - won the contract through Tobsiba-Samsung Storage Technology to manufacture an external Blu-ray drive for the console. It was no secret to those following the HD-DVD/Blu-ray debate last year that Microsoft was unimpressed with the technology because of BD-Java support, therefore they opted to go with HD i

Price Watch: Sony Blu-ray player, $194.99 shipped

Remember Circuit City's deal on the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player? It was $199.96, but most buyers had to pay sales tax. (Actually, I'm surprised no one called me out on the erroneous "$199.96 shipped" headline.) Well, ClubMac has the BDP-S300 for five bucks less ($194.99), with free shipping and no sales tax. No rebates, either.

Panasonic DMP-BD50 Blu-ray Player

For those of you who have waited to take the Blu-ray plunge until you could buy a dedicated player that does everything the Blu-ray format is capable of – and does it right out of the box -- your wait is over. Panasonic’s DMP-BD50 ($599.95) is the first standalone Profile 2.0 player, meaning it has the necessary audio and video decoders to play picture-in-picture content, and it supports BD-Live Web features that, while scarce at the moment, should appear on more and more discs over the next year. This model also has the audio bases covered, offering both internal decoding and bitstream output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Of course, thanks to recent firmware updates, Sony’s PlayStation3 has had the same features for a few months now, but that machine is a gaming console first, a Blu-ray player second.

Blu-ray for Less Green Sony's BWU-300S

Blu-ray for less green. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Sony has introduced its third generation Blu-ray drive that can be added to PCs to create Blu-ray discs...or play movies. And the price of the new BWU-300S....has dropped to under four hundred dollars. Sony's Bob DeMoulin acknowledges...

With its slim and classic frame design, the competitively priced players make for a perfect fit in the functional and space-efficient living rooms of today’s consumers.

Sony Blu-ray vs DVD: What are you buying?

I can remember when Blu-ray first came out and buying a Blu-ray player was in the thousands to buy, but not anymore. Many customers still feel to date that Blu-ray prices are still too high and that is why they are not purchasing them.

Blu-ray: Victor in the HD DVD Wars, But Ultimately Doomed?

"CNET's Crave on Friday reported on Nielsen's latest VideoScan figures, showing that Blu-ray Disc's market share in the video disc market has slumped in the past week. According to Nielsen, Blu-ray's market share dropped to just 8 percent of the overall market, giving DVDs a whopping 92 percent ownership. Granted, those figures show only one week's performance, and Blu-ray may have a huge week soon and capture more of the market, but let's be honest with ourselves: do we really think that will happen? According to a study released in August by ABI Research, more than half the people it surveyed had no plans to buy a standalone Blu-ray player in the near future, and 23 percent are considering it, but not until 2009. When your format is limping along with just 8 percent of the market, the last thing you want to hear is that only 23 percent

Analyst: Sony Should Consider PS3 Price Cuts In Tough Holiday Battle With production costs still a formidable challenge, Sony has said not to expect Christmas price cuts for the PlayStation 3 -- but EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes the PS3 may be taking a big hit from recent Xbox 360 price reductions.

Sony Gives Us Another Delicious Blu Format: Blu-spec CD

By the time you finish reading this post about Sony's latest media format—Blu-spec CD, which uses the same Blu Laser Diode as Blu-ray for audio CDs—they will likely have launched yet another one that we'll report on shortly. In the meantime, Blu-spec CDs are apparently excellent because the new CD cutting machines "eliminate vibration," which improves the laser beam quality and makes stuff sound better. And totally uncharacteristic of Sony, it'll actually work in your existing CD drive too. Sixty Blu-spec titles will be out by Christmas. [PC Pro]
