Sony apologizes for lackluster year

I like Sony, as a game company at least (uh oh). Know why? They're a company that doesn't binge itself so much on marketing and PR that they won't admit their weaknesses. Too many interviews feature journalists asking the same tired questions and the company president or developer or whatever answering with the same tired answers. If we're lucky, we see the journalist asking actually honest questions, like, 'why is your system sucking so bad? How will you make it not suck so bad?' (I'm paraphrasing). But typically at this point we just get tired answers anyway, marketing psychobabble the company owner or whoever was told to say if any 'tough questions' came up. So that's why I like Sony. This isn't to say they're completely devoid of marketing psychobabble, cause I've seen it, but the fact they can admit where they've gone wrong and where

New Link, the company that runs the Sony Center store network, forecasts a 25% increase in electronics sales this year, from around 17 million euros last year. In 2007, the company saw a 55% turnover increase. "I don't think we can match last year's growth rate. Despite the slowdown of the market's growth rate, I think we will be able to reach a 25-30% growth rate on 2007, in the second part of the year," said Nicolae Dumitrescu, sales manager of Sony Center. The market growth rate seen in the first

Sony Playstation 3 revival

At this time last year, Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 videogame machine looked like a dud, outsold in the U.S. two-to-one by Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 and four-to-one by Nintendo Co.’s Wii. Now, Sony’s videogames business is back in the hunt. The Wii still leads in sales world-wide, but the PS3 exceeded Xbox 360 sales in the critical U.S. market during the first three months of the year, helped by an improved selection of games, a 20% price cut last fall and the lure of models with built-in Blu-ray DVD players. Sony has also continued beating Microsoft in console sales in Europe and Japan.
