The iPod screen comes up on users' video displays via Yamaha's On-Screen Display visual interface.

Apple has considered making a new dock for the iPhone and iPod touch that would let the device work for video without compromising its ability to be charged, according to a just-published US patent application. Though cosmetically similar to the translucent stand included with the iPod touch, the purely visual patent also shows a Dock Connector cable plugged into the stand, suggesting that it could be used to power and sync a given device while watching movies, rather than just holding the player on its side.

The iBLIK in all its block-like gloryRevo has updated its BLIK radio range with the imaginatively-named iBLIK RadioStation, a brick-like box that combines the talents of DAB, FM, Wi-Fi web radio and an iPod speaker dock. Oh, and it can also stream digital tunes from a PC or Mac. Having played with (and loved) the iPod dock-less BLIK RadioStation, we reckon this is going to be the bee’s knees. Wowzers.

The iPhone (both 2.5G and 3G) might not come with an A2DP Bluetooth in place, but you can easily add it on yourself with this Infinixx adapter. It's $62, but works with the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod video, iPod color and iPod mini, meaning you can basically turn any fairly recent iPod into a wireless stereo device. You can also pair your Bluetooth headset to the iPhone directly to answer calls, which isn't supported through the dongle transmitter. Until Apple decides to put A2DP in the iPhone itself—and shorten the battery life even more—this is your only hope for wireless stereo music. [Brando]

Apple introduced iPod games about a year ago, and fortunately, the collection wasn’t left to flounder. Apple has added a few new titles, which is proof of Apple’s commitment to iPod games - a big deal to longtime Mac folks who are familiar with Apple’s less-than-stellar gaming history. All of these games are $4.99 (except the 99-cent iQuiz) through the iTunes Store, and you need a fifth-gen video iPod or a new iPod classic to play them. (Sudoku also works with the new third-gen iPod nano.)

(Review) - Yesterday, we had the opportunity to review Apple's 3rd generation iPod Nano, and needless to say, we came away impressed with the latest carnation of the iPod family. Apple is too good at what it does, and it shows. Today, we have the iPod Classic in our lab, and unfortunately, we don't know what to write about. Yes, it's a rarity with us, considering how we love to publish our opinions, but there's nothing differentiating between the 3rd generation iPod Nano and iPod Classic. Other than the larger display, higher storage capacity and an overall increase in size, both devices are identical to one another. Of course, that's a good thing, for the most part.

Memorex hopes to push down the cost of iPod-aware clock radios today with two relative budget models. The iWakeUp is the range leader with a relatively streamlined look and the most advanced features, including dual alarms for weekdays versus weekends and a sound enhancer for its more powerful speakers. Like many iPod-ready radios, it can also set the alarms to trigger either the iPod itself, an AM or FM radio station, or a buzzer. The device is compatible with most all dockable iPods up to the iPod touch, though the company shows an iPhone in the dock and hints at possible support for at least Airplane Mode. The iWakeUp sells today for $70 in black and white versions.

Last weekend a dear friend called up to say how his laptop had crashed and how he can now never take a backup of the music on his iPod. That's because, and most iPod owners know this, there is no way to actually copy back the music on your iPod. It only works one way: PC to iPod. Apple has deliberately created a convuluted database structure that prevents you from hooking your iPod to your PC and then copying back the mp3 files and videos and so on.
