May 13, 2008 -- NEC Electronics GmbH and NEC Electronics America, Inc., today added twelve new 32-bit devices with complete USB functionality on a single chip. The new 32-bit V850ES/Jx3-H and V850ESJx3-U MCUs execute USB 2.0 data transfers at high speeds up to 12 megabits per second (Mbps), and enable rapid development of applications that require USB connectivity and 32-bit processing power for real-time control of industrial equipment, factory automation systems, point-of-sales terminals, medical and testing devices, telecommunications and consumer electronics products and other embedded applications.

Fujitsu announces the development of a 256Mbit Consumer FCRAM for digital consumer electronics, the MB81EDS256545. The new FCRAM has low power consumption and is suited for system-in-package designs, with samples available from today. Worldwide revenue for consumer electronics (CE) will grow nearly 10% in 2008 and will hit the $700 billion mark by 2009, according to new data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the GfK Group. According to the CEA/GfK Worldwide Consumer Electronics Sales & Forecast, consumers will spend $42 billion more on CE products in 2009 than in 2008. Countries with fast-growing economies and large emerging middle classes, such as the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), will lead the way in new CE revenue growth. By 2009, China will account for nearly 15% of global CE revenue, trailing only North America (22% share) and Western Europe (16% share). Mobile devices make up the largest CE category worldwide, both in terms of unit sales and revenue.
