LCD screen technology has improved immensely over the last five years. For professionals who demanded a good quality monitor, this has not been an easy transition to make. Not so long ago, only Cathode Ray Tube displays such as the Sony Artisan and Barco Calibrator were regarded as suitable for high-end image editing. The Eizo 21" ColorEdge was one of the first LCD screens to offer an acceptable, wide gamut display for colour retouching work, and Eizo have now released the EIZO CG301W. This is a 30"sized display that ensures uniform and stable brightness across the whole screen area, can reproduce 97% of the Adobe RGB gamut and comes with ColorNavigator hardware calibration software that can work with calibration devices such as the Eye-One display.

An anonymous reader writes "Sony CEO Ryoji Chubachi knows something we don't. At a press conference, he announced Sony's plan to increase Blu-ray market share to 50% of all movie discs by the end of the year. 'DVD and BD currently account for about 80% and 20%, respectively, of global demand for movie discs, Chubachi indicated. The new BD devices to be offered by Sony include models integrating an HD LCD TV with BD recording functionality, Chubachi pointed out. Sony has relied mainly on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) to promote BD, and sales of the game console will increase along with the offering by top Hollywood studios of new BD movies, Chubachi noted. However, Sony will extend its BD promotion from the current focus on the PS3 and BD players/recorders to IT devices, Chubachi pointed out.

SEOUL (Thomson Financial) - Prosecutors have arrested a former senior engineer with South Korea's LG Electronics Inc for stealing and leaking flat-screen TV technology to China, officials said Thursday. The Seoul southern district prosecutors' office said it had charged the former LG employee identified only as Jeong with stealing technology to manufacture plasma display panels (PDP). After leaving LG Electronics in 2005, Jeong smuggled out computer files on the design of its PDP plant. Jeong later moved to a firm in China, which was preparing to produce such panels, the prosecutor's office said. "His act clearly constitutes theft," prosecutor Jang Sang-Ki, who is handling the case, told Agence France-Presse. Jeong could also face a charge of leaking technology, he said.
