n2hightech writes "Harvard University scientists figured out how to activate a trio of dormant genes that commanded non-insulin producing pancreas cells to switch to the Beta type insulin producing cells. The method uses an engineered virus to infect the cells and deliver special proteins that activate the dormant genes. This technology has the potential to make all stem cell based methods obsolete because it does not pose the risk of rejection and cancer associated with stem cells. A simple injection into the area where cells need to be reprogrammed is all that is required." Gospodin adds a link to coverage at the Washington Post.

Apparently some Circuit City stores carry Mad magazine. When Mad magazine ran a parody ad for a store called Sucker City, someone in corporate operations reacted quickly to order all the magazines removed and destroyed. But!

Circuit City Stores Inc. (CC) opened at 2.22. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 2.10 and a high of 2.27. CC is now trading at 2.18, down 0.37 (-16.67%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 15.33 in July and set its 52 week low of 2.10 today. CC has been moving downwards for the past year. Circuit City Stores shares have been taking a hit after Blockbuster Inc. (BBI) withdrew its bid for the company, citing "market conditions." In April, Blockbuster had offered to buy Circuit City for at least $6 a share, or more than $1 billion. Technical indicators for the stock are bearish and steady while S&P gives CC a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold rating. We will just watch this one for now. There are no trades that we like for CC. chareverie writes "Researchers at Harvard University have been working towards a goal of replacing some types of heart surgery with injections of cells that would grow into blood vessels for damaged hearts. The cells that would be used are progenitor cells obtained from the blood or bone marrow, as opposed to stem cells that are obtained from human embryos. The research team was successful with their tests on growing heart blood vessels in mice. Joyce Bishoff, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard and senior author of the report, says, 'Our next goal down the line is to use them in humans.' She also notes that more studies need to be done on animals to see how these cells would react and behave with other types of tissues. A similar human experiment was done two years ago in Germany, during which a few people from a group of 75 he
