I buy all my Korean TV drama DVDs and horror films at Scarecrow. It's a great place to find all the popular overseas stuff. I've noticed my local FYE also has started to create special sections for Anime, Chinese Kung Fu, etc. Good trend.

An anonymous reader writes "I have my own domain, which has its own email server, where I receive all my personal email. I've been getting about 800 emails a day, of which perhaps 20 are real. Suddenly, Sunday or Monday evening, the spam pretty much stopped. My volume of mail has plummeted to less than 100 a day, and as far as I can tell, I'm not missing any real mail — I'm still getting the email list subscriptions I'm expecting, and every time I ask someone to send me a test message, it gets through. My domain host insists that it doesn't do any spam filtering before mail gets to my inbox, and that they've changed nothing about their configuration. I run SpamAssassin on my server to mark, but not delete, spam, and download the whole mess to my home client, and I'm still seeing the occasional message tagged by SpamAssassin.

I've liked flames since I was a little kid growing up in Southern California during the '50s. I can't remember if the first time I ever saw something flamed was in one of my dad's custom car magazines, or on a hot-rod driving down the street. I do remember by the time I was in elementary school I was getting in trouble with my teachers for drawing flames on all of my school papers. When old people used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told them a custom painter. By the time I was 14 I was custom painting all of my friend's bicycles in the neighborhood. By age 17, I had opened up a custom paint shop out of my parent's garage.

Well, it's been three months since I adopted Ruby and Dolly Parton and despite a few mishaps—a little pee on the bed, my ceramic Buddha no longer has a head and the bottoms of my dresses now have a kind of "de-constructed" look—things have gone swimmingly. I love these cats and I can't imagine my life without them. What I can imagine my life without is the smell of their litter boxes in my not-very-big apartment. We've tried all kinds of litter. The natural ones smell within an hour and the chemical ones don't smell, but scare me (some are made with known carcinogens. No, no, no.). Because I can't literally be manning the box after every visit, and because I equally don't love the scent when I get home, I really don't know what to do. I've heard good things about the Litter Robot, which waits seven minutes after your cat leaves the bo

We're all friends here, right? Well, I have a confession to make: I'm a shoe-aholic (I may have mentioned this in the past). When I turn on my computer, Windows Live Messanger is signed on. I never use this tool to IM. Now I cannot get more than one IE page to open at one time. When I already have one page open and I try to open another I get the response that the IE page is not responding, and that it is sending Microsoft an error message. I have logged off and shut down about seven times in a row. I evidently do not have a normal router either. I need to know how to go into my computer and check my router to see if it is sending out signals. And I need to check the security of my computer. How would I know how to tell whether I am just having problems with the computer, or if someone has hacked into my computer. Any help would be appreciated. Misseltoile

(this if from my first post) To tell you a little bit about myself, my name is Tim Meinberg I have been vegan for around 3 years now. I work in IT doing all kinds of stuff from networking to graphic design. I have lived in the DC area my whole life, I love it and hate it here, but I am not going to get into that. I love my bicycles too, I worked in the bike industry for several years before I got into IT, did a some racing too, mostly cyclocross. I hope to provide you readers with some good reading, articles, ramblings, reviews, and the such. I am not the best writer in the world, and I hated English class, so I am sure there will be type-o’s and long sentences, so don’t hate me!

I have no excuses – I should have known better than to let my gadget envy get the better of me. But, with all the new way cool features added to the iPhone 3G and the fact that my existing AT&T plan allowed me to upgrade at $199, I decided to join the other crazies in line last Saturday afternoon and spend 2 hours to get my hands on a new iPhone 3G. I’ve spent more than 20 hours since then trying to get it to do what I needed it to do (i.e., synchronize with Outlook, stay charged up for more than a day, not die when I touch a button, etc.) and then I spent another 3 hours yesterday trying to return it. For more about why I now feel like a moron, read on…

I feel exploited when a customer takes to much time to send me all the images, texts, videos, ideas etc that I need to complete the project. In the meantime, severals changes are asked from the client. A web site project could take 3 months! Eating peanut butter 3 months in a row is not very interesting (it’s juste an exemple of how poor I can be cause I wait for my money). A project could be finished in 2 short weeks (that never happened to me)… Even if I charge 40% of the total price at the beginning, I always feel that I’m more interested in finishing the project that the customer is. Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the good job in my life, but I prefer to be poor sometimes than having a boss. I’m open to any ideas to not feel exploited, and sorry if I’m definatly not in the topic, that’s what I understood from the article, feeling exploi

I am not a big sports fan and thus I really don’t play all that many sports video games. However, right now I’m watching a quite a bit of sports on TV, and my favorite video game this summer has been Sega’s Beijing 2008. As I ran track and field in my younger days and still enjoy cycling, I find the Olympics video games to be a lot of fun. Likewise, as my father’s side of the family is of Romanian descent I think gymnastics is almost hardwired into my DNA — and even if the sport on TV bores me, I find the game version strangely compelling!

Thomas Matysik writes "I'm attempting to de-clutter my house and I've hit a rough patch: the computer room. I've got a bunch of wires, hardware and software that (I think) were useful at one point in time, but these days it doesn't do much more than take up space. Selling it seems like it'd be a huge hassle and it seems really wasteful for me to just pitch all of this stuff in the dumpster. I've considered giving it away to Goodwill, but I'm afraid that's not the right sort of outlet for this stuff. My question: what should I do with all of my tech junk?"

Truth be told, I've been writing a lot about the iPhone 3G lately because, despite the tone of my last entry, I'm still thinking about getting one. I need to replace the Q as early as next month, and, given my compendium of requirements, the iPhone remains at the top of the list. As I've noted before, the walled-garden approach isn't unappealing to me; I'm a computer-science major, but I have a business to run and a job to do. So the Mac is a decent platform to base it all on, and the iPhone goes hand-in-hand with the Mac. Is that great marketing, or what? And I'd be amazed if I ever downloaded more than two apps for the iPhone; I just need the basics for business use, and at the core that's a desktop-class browser. So I should be all set.

I've used iPhones and I have an iPod Touch. I love the interface, and I dig the device. Initially, I had to resist the urge to just buy an iPhone and deal with these problems, but I didn't, opting to get a Nokia N95 instead. A year has passed, and I've realized that I definitely made the right choice -- the limitations of the original iPhone (and the iPhone 2.0) are simply too numerous. Perhaps I've been spoiled by my N95 (and truth be told, I'll be getting an N96 in the next few months), but no matter how you slice it, I've decided that the iPhone just isn't my cup of tea. Here's why:

Awhile ago, I needed a new printer. Nothing fancy, just something for my home office. I’d settled on an HP all-in-one. But when I went into Best Buy, not once did any of the blue-shirted customer service reps offer to assist me, but that’s just as well. That’s not what I found to be rude. Rather, once I’d picked a printer, I had to get an employee to either retrieve my selection from the back room or from one of the mountainous stacks above the display shelves. But after approaching three different blue shirts, I noticed a trend: they run away from you.

I'm running Vista MCE and bought a Hauppauge HVR-1800 with a DB8 HDTV antenna and I've used AntennaWeb to point the DB8 in the best direction. The results have been terrible and I'm looking for recommendations / suggestions for hardware and setup. I am on the first floor of a three-story apartment building and I can't mount any external antennas (I know this is a major issue). Thankfully almost all the transmitters are located in the same place so a good, compact directional antenna might be effective. And please... no platform bashing.

We all pretty much know that the iPhone is an amazing cell phone with abilities not found in any other competing product. There was a lot of media attention with the recent launch of its next 3G generation iteration. But for me, I get good enough Edge reception where I live so I can see web pages fairly quickly. And while it's true that you can talk on the phone while surfing only with the 3G model, I only needed to do that maybe twice in the year I've owned mine. Plus I have a Garmin navigator in my car so I also don't really need to use my iPhone as a navigation device. Besides, the 2.0 OS upgrade makes me feel like I have a whole new phone anyway. So for now, I'm sticking with my current model. Perhaps when its Safari browser supports more multimedia elements such as Flash, I may feel the need for more speed to accommodate the larger d

I was working at the radio station minding my own business when suddenly I was called to the on-air studio. The Aliyah Revolution with Go'el and Dovid was in the middle of its live broadcast. I thought maybe there was some kind of technical emergency. I rushed in the studio, only to have Dovid ask me if I ever heard of the group Game Boys. Yes, I replied, I had seen the cover of their 2006 disc Game Boys: The Album, but that was as far as I got. I didn't actually listen to it. Well Dovid had in fact listened to it and excitedly wanted to know my opinion and if I could run to the disc library and grab it for him.

I wrote my college thesis on a typewriter. All 100-plus pages of it, with footnotes and endnotes, with telltale white spots where I’d covered up my typing errors. For my research, I consulted the UP Main Library’s card catalogue, a dusty cabinet of drawers containing yellowing index cards arranged in alphabetical order. I wrote the drafts on sheets of yellow legal pad, with a ballpoint pen. When I typed the final manuscript, I made a copy using carbon paper. I still have my college thesis in my files — in hard copy.

I've never been able to play golf, because of my eyesight - I just can't follow the flight of a golf ball as I hit it - which is why I loved to play Putt Putt as a child and spent many hours on the par 3 courses. But, I LOVE to play golf simulations and the likes, and Par 72 Golf II, by RESETgame, is no exception! I was actually surprised when I first downloaded and installed the game, as I didn't expect too much since the game is played on the small screen of my Palm Centro. Boy, was I surprised when I started the game for the first time! The graphics on this game are awesome! I'll go into more detail of the game graphics later.

I was scared to death when I heard the loud shot-like noise that came from the DVD disk I was playing. Apparently the disk shattered inside the drive! The drive is wide open but it won’t close, and half the disc seems to be inside the drive somewhere. No other CD can go in at all. How do I take out the rest of the CD broken inside? Can someone please tell me how can I open the CD player inside the computer? I need to see inside so I can remove the rest of the disk. How did this thing happen? My computer is working fine. I mean I even turned it off and on again to see what could happen. Nothing. Can someone tell me if I should open the computer CPU case so I can remove the pieces? Thanks, Mary

Facebook is one of the sites I spend the most time on. While I'm meeting up with online friends I want to make sure that I stay safe. I don't want just anyone knowing all my private information. I do let anyone view my Facebook profile though, just because it's part of what I do. If I wasn't an online presence though, I might only let friends view my site.
