The iPhone (both 2.5G and 3G) might not come with an A2DP Bluetooth in place, but you can easily add it on yourself with this Infinixx adapter. It's $62, but works with the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod video, iPod color and iPod mini, meaning you can basically turn any fairly recent iPod into a wireless stereo device. You can also pair your Bluetooth headset to the iPhone directly to answer calls, which isn't supported through the dongle transmitter. Until Apple decides to put A2DP in the iPhone itselfāand shorten the battery life even moreāthis is your only hope for wireless stereo music. [Brando]

It's no surprise that Apple's Remote application headed up the App Store's list of Top Free Apps immediately after the iPhone application store launched. After installing Remote on an iPhone or iPod touch, the portable's touchscreen becomes the best remote control I've yet seen for controlling an Apple TV--or iTunes running on a computer--located on the same local network. (Your iPhone or iPod touch must be connected to that network via WiFi.)

Apple this week began posting information for iPhone users intending to update their device to the new iPhone 3G. A new support document explains how to replace an original iPhone with an iPhone 3G using the same carrier: "If you follow these steps to backup your original iPhone first, and then restore the backup to your iPhone 3G, your saved SMS messages, email accounts, photos, notes, and other personal settings will be present on your iPhone 3G," the company noted. The instructions indicate that iPhone users in the US will not need to transfer their SIM card (a new one will be provided with the iPhone 3G) and describes how to transfer settings, personal info, SMS messages, and other data to the new device using iTunes' backup iPhone feature.

On July 11, 2008 Apple launched an update for the iPhone, softare version 2.0. This is a free upgrade for current iPhone users, included as standard on the new iPhone 3G, and an inexpensive ($10) upgrade for iPod Touch users. As part of the 2.0 software update came a long awaited addition to the iPhone, the new Application (App) store. The App Store, located inside the new iTunes 7.7, provides immediate access to well over 500 software applications for the iPhone, many of which are free and most others priced from $2.99 - $9.99. iPhone and iPod Touch users also have the ability to access the new App Store directly from their updated mobile device.

Colleague Cliff Edwards, next door on Tech Beat reports having seen a device he theorizes is a next-generation iPod nano, sporting a touch screen. (Sorry no pictures.) He argues pretty convincingly that its a likely change for the fall. Iāve been thinking that the transition to the current nano model, nicknamed ālittle fattyā had happened too recently for it to be time for a major change to the nano. But then thereās the issue of consistent look and feel. If the iPod touch is now the flagship of the iPod family, and it looks like an iPhone, then shouldnāt the nano also look more like an iPhone as well, and as such sport a touch screen? Makes perfect sense to me.

Since I'm a Verizon Wireless customer the closest thing to joining the iFrenzy for the iPhone 3G is taking advantage of Apple's App Store and the wealth new software options available for my iPod Touch. The only problem (sound effect of vinyl record scratching) I can't run any applications from the just opened Apple App Store because I'm locked out. Worse, now that I've updated iTunes to 7.7, I can browse and salivate over applications compatible with my iPod Touch and even download them to my PC. The only problem is my iPod Touch firmware won't update to the latest 2.0 version available today. I've been stuck looking at the message "This version of the iPod software (1.1.4) is the current version."
