LEGO Batman PS2 Bundle Comes With Game and Justice League: New Frontiers for $149 (But No Bat Logo)

Coming this Fall to North America is the LEGO Batman PS2 bundle, which includes the LEGO Batman game and the Justice League: New Frontiers flick for $149. I would buy this machine if it had a Batman logo on it, especially if it was released in the next two days as my Batman slobbering becomes fully torrential leading up to Thursday night. Still, not too bad.

GNOME 3.0 Is Coming, And Coming Soon!

"The K Desktop Environment community came out earlier this year with their brand new KDE 4.0 release that marked significant advancements to this open-source desktop environment compared to its KDE 3.5.x code-base. Meanwhile, the GNOME community has been living in a 2.0 cycle for quite some time with no signs of a major overhaul, but their six-month release cycles just continue to deliver new refinements and minor improvements. The plans for GNOME 3.0 just put this release out when there is significant API/ABI breakage to GNOME 2.0 / GTK+ or a major rewrite. Well, in addition to announcing Stormy Peters joining GNOME, at GUADEC 2008 they have just announced plans for GNOME 3.0...!"

This new option expands Yahoo!'s existing opt-out program for customized advertising served by Yahoo! on third party networks. Yahoo! announced the new opt-out capability as part of its response to a Congressional inquiry about customization sent to 33 companies from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This new opt-out capability is expected to be available for consumers by the end of August. Users will be able to access the opt-out in the Yahoo! privacy center, which is linked on the home page and nearly every page on the Yahoo! network.

Batman Discussion

I won't be reading it because I haven't been able to go yet, but I suspect a goodly number of you have already partaken in the latest Batman flick that taunts me. Mocks me. And knows that I don't have time today or probably any time this week (unless there is a movie theater near the OSCON venue?) Anyway- here is the official place to talk about the biggest geek movie out until the X-Files comes out next week, and I have similar frustrations.

E3 2008 - LEGO Batman - Xbox 360 Preview

The past LEGO games have always been simplistic fun, though a few puzzles here and there can be rather frustrating. The LEGO games have also always relied on previous movies to provide the set pieces and story. LEGO Batman marks the first time a completely original story is being developed in conjunction with the tried and true LEGO formula. Whether you want to fight crime as Batman or do evil as the Joker, LEGO Batman looks to impress fans of all ages.

.06% opt out: NebuAd hides link in 5,000-word privacy policy

The ISPs that use NebuAd's boxes routinely argue that they provide robust notification to customers before deploying the gear, and that any customer not thrilled about having her browsing data routed through a third-party ad-serving box can opt out with just a single click. But what happens when you're "robust notice" takes the form of two paragraphs buried inside a 5,000-word privacy policy and you don't even e-mail your users to point out the change? Well, now we know: only 15 of 26,000 people opt out.

The firm said the new DVDs will be offered through Aleratec, HP, Imation, Memorex, Philips, Primeon, and Verbatim. LightScribe licenses technology to consumer electronics firms which allows for labeling of CD and DVD disks using the laser within CD and DVD drives; the company is a unit of HP.

Google, Yahoo allow users to opt out of targeted advertisements

The ongoing US Congress investigation into online advertising seems to be having an effect on some of the companies as Google and Yahoo announced plans to allow users to opt out of targeted promotions on the Internet. While Yahoo announced a new one-click opt-out policy yesterday, Google made it possible to opt out of both Google and Doubleclick ad targeting with one click the day before. (See: US Congress investigates Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, over internet data collection)

Aleratec's 1:3 DVD/CD Tower Publisher HLS

Sending out a CD/DVD to a duplicating service can cost hundreds of dollars—and requires a minimum order, usually in the neighborhood of several hundred copies, which is not a practical solution for most of us. Yes, there are inkjets capable of printing on pre-labeled discs, but one thing they can’t do is duplicate CDs and DVDs—and the process is limited to one disc at a time. And in this day and age, when we’re handing out discs with pictures, videos, and music like they were Halloween candy, it would really help to have some means of efficiently duplicating discs and printing labels at home, in our spare time—on the same machine. There are pricey machines that will do the job, but if you don’t mind the no-frills approach and are willing to spend under $500, then consider the Aleratec 1:3 DVD/CD Tower Publisher HLS.
