May Sales Down 1% For Tandy Leather Factory

June 5, 2008 (FinancialWire) Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (AMEX: TLF) (Current Market Cap: US$ 34.36 Mil.) said that its sales for the month of May were $4.5 million, down 1% from May 2007 sales of $4.6 million. The company s year-to-date sales are down 4% to $22.6 million in the current year from $23.5 million last year. The company s Retail Leathercraft segment posted an 8% sales increase for May, with sales totaling $2.0 million compared to $1.9 million in May 2007. The 67 comparable stores posted a 3% same store sales gain for the month. Five stores that opened in or after May 2007 added sales for the month of $86,000. Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $10.4 million this year, up 3% over last year's sales of $10.1 million. As of the end of May, same store sales were down 3% for the year.

Online clothing sales benefit from bad weather

The latest figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index reveals that poor weather conditions appear to boost online clothing sales whilst driving people away from the high street. Snow and rain this April appeared to have encouraged online shoppers to spend nearly £326 million on clothes and online footwear sales saw a significant growth in sales of 20%. These figures drew a sharp contrast to sales on the high street - The British Retail Consortium reported that clothing and footwear fell further to their worst for at least 8 years.

Celebration of Compost Week at Botanical Garden

St. John's, Newfoundland The Composting Council of Canada started off International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) on the East Coast, at the Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) Botanical Garden in St. John's. When the Botanical Garden was started in 1971, the plot of land was bedrock and contaminated with lead. Rebuilding the soil was step one, and composting was a necessary part of the reclamation. That practice has continued to this day. The Garden collects leaves from St. John's for its composting piles, using the finished product for topdressing on raised garden beds. "As a nonprofit organization, we could not possibly afford to buy all the soil, especially here, where Newfoundland is called the rock because we don't have a lot of good soil to grow plants in," says Anne Madden, the garden's education coordinator, in a recent Tele

Game Group first half ahead of expectations

For the first 22 weeks to 28 June 2008, total Group sales were up by 54.0 per cent. Like for like Group sales (including Gamestation from 1 May 2008) for the same period were up by 24.8 per cent. In the UK and Ireland, total sales were up by 58.2 per cent and lfl sales were up by 28.1 per cent. In the International business, total sales and lfl sales were up by 43.9 per cent and 16.9 per cent respectively.

Web sales at Gap climb 21% as total sales fall 5%

The online channel continues to lead financial performance at Gap Inc., where web sales increased 21.3% to $236 million for the first quarter ended May 3, from $195 million a year ago. Web sales accounted for 6.98% of total Q1 net sales, compared to 5.49% in the same period last year, Gap says.
