Anyone who buys DRM protected movies and music from iTunes and Windows media center wants to enjoy DRM protected media with their digital players, but it is not easy to find an all-in-one DRM removing solution. Here I recommend a powerful yet easy to use DRM killer, which can return your full user rights by removing DRM from iTunes and WMV and the step by step DRM removing guide is as following: Step 1 Download Aimersoft Almedia Converter from: http://www.all-media-converter.com/media-converter.html, then install this DRM removal software, click button “Add” to put DRM protected movie or music, you can also directly drag-drop them into the main processing window.

Like Yahoo and MSN before them, Walmart is turning off its DRM servers on Oct. 9, effectively putting any DRM'd songs you bought from them into a cold stasis they'll never wake up from, since they'll become totally unmovable unless you circumvent the DRM. Walmart went through this earlier with their video store, though it didn't matter since no one bought anything from it. Walmart's music store is DRM-free now, though I doubt that's any consolation to people who actually paid for music that's now nigh useless.

Reader SteveD sent in this story a week ago, but I just got around to looking at the details. Apparently the makers of the video game World of Goo, which (as mentioned) was released without DRM, have roughly calculated the rate of piracy on the game to be about 90%. The calculation is certainly a rough one, and people can quibble with the number, but the basic reasoning seems sound. A lot of folks focused on that 90% number, but didn't pay as much attention to the more important comparison: how this compared to a DRM'd game. The game makers noted that it had almost no difference compared to another game released with DRM, showing that adding the DRM did absolutely nothing to prevent piracy. So why do video game companies keep insisting they need DRM?

I'm always looking for a good deal, and one of the best deals you can generally find is when something is free (assuming it's not spyware or malware... that would make it a bad deal). Anyway, I've updated my lists of free Web editors: Free Web Editors for Windows, Free HTML Editors for Macintosh and, Free HTML Editors for Linux and UNIX. But I'm curious what your favorite editors are. I've already received the suggestion "Phase 5" for Windows free editors from aarnmunro. But I'm wondering if there are others. Do you have a favorite Macintosh HTML editor or what about Linux or UNIX?

Wal-Mart has downsized its decision to shutter its DRM key servers after transitioning to a DRM-free music store. Wal-Mart Music customers began receiving e-mails today from the company saying that feedback from customers has prompted Wal-Mart to keep the DRM servers online a bit longer, allowing people to continue transferring their purchased music to other computers as usual. Wal-Mart did not indicate, however, that the servers would remain online forever, and it continued to advise customers to burn their music to CDs.

An anonymous reader writes "Developer 2D Boy has written that they are seeing an 82% piracy rate for everyone's favorite DRM-free physics puzzler, World of Goo . Surprisingly, this rate is in-line with what they were expecting. The article also features a fascinating comparison with the piracy rate of another game that was shipped complete with DRM, at 92%. There seemed to be no major difference in the outcomes of the rate regardless of whether DRM was used or not... well, no difference other than the cost to implement such nonsense."

It is very easy to create free ringtones for your iPhone 3G using only iTunes and songs you already have on your computer. This tutorial shows how to perform step by step. It only works with songs that are DRM free. To create ringtones using DRM protected songs, you need first strip the DRM off and then follow the guide. This method has been tested and works with iTunes 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware. Actually, my friend told me he had tested it with iTunes 8 and it worked smoothly as well, though there were several differences in making settings due to the update of iTunes.

Barence writes "An open-source digital rights management (DRM) scheme says it's ready to supplant Apple and Microsoft as the world's leading copy protection solution. Marlin, which is backed by companies such as Sony and Samsung, has just announced a new partner program that aims to drive the DRM system into more consumer devices. 'It works in a way that doesn't hold consumers hostage,' Talal Shamoon told PC Pro. 'It allows you to protect and share content in the home, in a way that people own the content, not the devices.' When asked about the biggest problem of DRM — that customers hate it — he argued that 'the biggest problem with DRM is people have implemented it badly. Make DRM invisible and people will use it.'"
