Google plans to expand its finance Web site by adding more historical data and company filings as it tries to gain ground on more-popular services from Yahoo and AOL. The company will also seek to improve its 2-year-old finance site by offering real-time stock prices from the New York Stock Exchange on a permanent basis after a four-month pilot started this week, said R.J. Pittman, director of product management. Google's finance pages had 2.07 million U.S. visitors last month, ranking 13th on researcher ComScore's list of top financial sites. The company plans to use its search technology to help users find data more efficiently, rather than adding editorial content to lure more users, Pittman said. Adding features such as up-to-the-minute stock quotes will help Google lure more visitors that may then visit the company's other sites, sai

Online consumers 62 and older are just as likely as younger shoppers to be motivated make a purchase by web advertising, according to research by Focalyst and Dynamic Logic. More than a third of the older crowd use the Internet, and those that do are wealthier and better educated than those not online, Focalyst says. A survey conducted by PayPal and comScore revealed that unexpectedly high shipping fees are the number one reason consumers abandon online purchases. The study also found that many consumers abandon their purchases for payment-related reasons and due to online comparison shopping behavior. More than one in four indicated that they wanted to compare items at online and offline stores before making a purchase. However, more than one-third who abandon at checkout said they returned to the merchant's Web site at a later time to complete the transaction.

Online TV show content is emerging as an effective way to target new-vehicle buyers, according to a survey by J. D. Power and Associates. It found that 68% of new-vehicle buyers go online to find information on television shows, and that the reach of online TV show content among new-vehicle buyers has increased by 22% since 2007. "As the automotive market struggles in the current economy, it becomes important for manufacturers and advertisers to target the diminishing number of consumers who are seeking to buy a new vehicle," said Arianne Walker, director of marketing and media research at J. D. Power and Associates. The firm forecasts that fewer than 15 million new vehicles will be sold in 2008, compared with 16.1 million last year.

We’ve all been hearing a million different things about this “new” iPhone that is suppose to be coming out any day now! I recently spoke to one of my friends who works at AT&T and I guess the new gossip going around is that the new iPhone is going to be cheaper than the original. I don’t know about you guys, but I find this hard to believe. The 3G is suppose to be faster, have GPS, a new glossy black cover (that is said to be color changeable), slightly thicker, updated software and the camera is expected to be better. I’m sure there will be a ton more things that will be changed or newly added to the new iPhone, so it’s a little strange that Apple would make the new iPhone less expensive...Especially, because people are going to buy it no matter how much it is.

One facet of Best Buy for Business (Best Buy for Business builds data powerhouse, BtoB's Lead Generation Guide 2008, page 6 ) that was not brought up by Best Buy (not surprisingly, and I am sure Best Buy would like everyone to forget) was the Best Buy for Government initiative launched at about the same time. There was lots of noise in the government market when Best Buy for Government showed up at [the FOSE Exposition and Conference] in 2005 and 2006, but largely because of T-shirts and big bags, not product. There was no substance, little execution and no value proposition. And now Best Buy for Government is gonethree years and out. The BBG Web site, which was never more than a home page with a phone number, had the tag line The convenience of in-store pick up.
