Flat Panel TVs & Digital Cameras to Grow in Canada in 2008

Sales of digital cameras and televisions in Canada were strong in 2007, with growth predicted in 2008, according to the report, 2008 Consumer Electronics Market Trends and Forecast, by the Consumer Electronics Marketers of Canada (CEMC), an Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) council, and the Canadian Imaging Trade Association (CITA). The report reveals the rise in sales of digital cameras was up almost 25% in 2007 over the previous year, with manufacturers shipping almost 3.8 million digital cameras to Canadian retailers. The sale of digital cameras in 2008 is projected to increase to 3,952 units. In the Canadian television market, CEMC reported 2007 as a solid year of growth for television shipments in Canada. AT&T Mobile TV to launch on Sunday

As reported a month or so ago, AT&T Mobile TV is the carrier's new live mobile TV service that will broadcast television shows to compatible phones via Qualcomm's MediaFlo network. At launch, the service will offer eight channels of programming--CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2G0, NBC News 2GO, and Nickelodeon--as well as two AT&T-exclusive channels called PIX and CNN Mobile Live. PIX will have shows from Sony Pictures Television while CNN Mobile Live will feature 24-hour-a-day live streaming of CNN. said Wednesday net income nearly tripled in the fiscal year ended March 31, as a strong performance in its electronics and game segments offset a weaker result in its film and financial services segments. The company said net income for the period totaled 369.4 billion yen ($3.5 billion), up from 126.3 billion yen a year earlier. The result was higher than consensus estimates for 334.5 billion yen. The electronics giant said sales grew 6.9% to 8.871 trillion yen. Revenue at its electronics unit climbed 8.9% helped by brisk sales of Bravia liquid-crystal display televisions, Vaio computers and digital cameras. The company's film division posted an 11.2% decrease owing to fewer releases and its financial services unit saw revenue fall 10.5% on investment losses and a fall in the valuations of convertible bonds.
