E-retailer trade group Shop.org announces European conference

Shop.org, a Washington-based trade group for online retailers, has announced plans for its first conference in Europe, the Global eCommerce Summit, which will take place in Amsterdam Oct. 27-29. Shop.org is working with the European eCommerce and Mail Order Trade Association on the event.

Trade Secrets and NDAs

Trade secrets are confidential business information that have value because they are not generally known and are the subject of efforts by the business to keep the information confidential. The most well known example of a trade secret is the formula for Coke. Every company, however, has trade secrets (e.g., customer lists, source code for software, methods of creating products, etc.). Every state has enacted laws to protect trade secrets. There are also federal laws that provide additional protection for trade secrets by way of severe civil and criminal penalties for theft or other misappropriation of trade secrets.

Trade Unions call for REACH amendment to cover nanomaterials

European labour unions have called on the European Commission to amend the REACH regulation on chemicals to better protect workers against nanomaterials throughout their lifecycle. Their call comes shortly after the EU executive argued that nanotech is already covered by existing EU regulation. "Workers all along the production chain from laboratories through to manufacturing, transport, shop shelves, cleaning, maintenance and waste management" are exposed to nanomaterials manufactured and placed on the market without true knowledge of their potential impacts on human health and the environment, states a resolutionPdf external adopted by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on 25 June. The confederation calls on the Commission to amend the bloc's chemicals legislation (REACH) to cover nanomaterials manufactured or imported below
