Android developers get non response from Google

Android developers have had a lot to grumble about, and Google just added to the list. First a recap: The last official SDK most developers saw from Google was back in March, and then Google slipped up and everyone learned that only a certain few developers were privy to the latest SDK updates. And still, weeks after that, no word from Google about when the rest of the Android developer crew will get a peak at the latest iteration.

Mobile Developers Still Favor .Net and Java, But The Popularity Of Linux And Android Is Growing

One way to look into the future to see which cell phones will be popular is by figuring out what platform developers are building applications for today. Developers tend to pick platforms that are easy to work with and present the biggest market opportunity. Likewise, if developers gravitate to particular platforms, consumers will be drawn to the same ones because they’ll offer the greatest choice of applications. Today’s favorites aren’t surprising, according to Evans Data, which polled nearly 400 developers. The top phone manufacturer is Nokia (NYSE: NOK), while the top platforms, are Microsoft’s (NSDQ: MSFT) .Net and Sun Microsystem’s Java ME. This is interesting to note because the media is constantly writing about a handset war developing between RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) or Mac OS, which could indeed be brewing, but on a fairly sma

Google says thanks for Android petition

After 219 developers signed a petition asking for more information about Android's progress, Google offered a two-sentence reply saying thanks. Developers building applications on Android, Google's mobile phone software that is still in the making, have been venting their frustration at what they say is a slow pace of updates released for the SDK (software development kit) and a general lack of information about the development schedule for the software. In late June, developer Nicolas Gramlich, a computer science student in Germany, started a petition asking Google to release more updates to the SDK and to offer developers information about the development timeline of the SDK. Last week, he sent the petition to the Android Advocate at Google.

Google's Android platform: not so open after all

Google vowed that its Linux-based Android mobile platform would empower enthusiasts and amateur developers, but today we have seen compelling evidence that this is an empty promise. Third-party Android application developers, who have grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of SDK updates, were shocked to discover that Google has been secretly making new versions of the Android SDK available to the Android Developer Challenge (ADC) finalists under non-disclosure agreements.

Nokia: Open Source Developers Should Play By Our Rules

"Nokia has been involved with open source for several years. Notably, it used Linux and several open source code libraries as the foundation of Maemo, the operating system for its line of Internet tablet devices. To be fair, Nokia has also contributed to a number of open source projects in return. But if Jaaski thinks that gives Nokia a right to dictate terms--sorry, to 'educate developers'--I think he's in for a rude awakening.
