SnT2k writes "Adobe recently released the beta version of Alchemy which compiles C/C++ code into AS3 bytecode (which runs on AVM2) that can run on the Flash or Flex platform and boasts increased performance for computationally-intensive tasks (but still slower than native C/C++). It was demonstrated last year during the Chicago MAX 2007 to run Quake. A few months later it has been demonstrated to run a Python interpreter and Nintendo Emulator. One interesting tidbit is that the thing is built upon the open source LLVM Compiler Infrastructure."

The values of XML elements and attributes are, by definition, case sensitive. For example, if you search elements for the value "Paris," you will not find "PARIS" or "paris." This can be solved with XQuery functions such as fn:upper-case(), but the performance will not always be optimal since the use of such functions precludes the use of XML indexes. This article explains how to create a case-insensitive database using DB2® pureXML™ and what behavior to expect for XML queries and XML indexes.

If you work much with Streams or Sockets, you are bound come across the need to convert a string to a byte array or to convert a byte array into a string. There is an easy means to accomplish this, but it is not where I would have expected it to be. The methods to do this are found in the Encoding class. The GetBytes() method is used to get a byte array representation of a string and the GetString() method is used to get a string representation of an array of bytes. Here is an example of how to use the methods:

IconThe proposed new standard for the C++ programming language, C++0x, has reached feature completeness. "This is 'it', feature-complete C++0x, including the major feature of 'concepts' which had its own extensive set of papers for language and library extensions (if you get the impression that concepts is a big feature, well, it is indeed easily the biggest addition we made in C++0x)."

It is no doubt that PSP is an excellent game player. However, it is not playing games all the time; you can use it to do a ton of other cool and (highly useful) things when you're not in the game mode. Thanks to its pretty big screen compared to other portable video players, PSP is a nice gadget for watching videos as well. So the following tutorial focuses on how to rip DVD movies and TV shows, convert video files and convert online YouTube/Google videos to MP4 format for playback on Sony PSP.
