ComponentGo! has released WebSchedulerGo 2.4.7 ? Gantt scheduling with AJAX

The WebSchedulerGo 2.4.7 is a unique ASP.NET control on the market that allows users to manage multiple resources at a time. AJAX technology gives one the possibility to drag and drop scheduler items to change time and/or resource, or to edit in place texts on the scheduler. A hierarchical tree of the rows allows building parent-child relations among resources. The control can be used in many areas: hierarchical project planning, management of resources and time, hotel room booking, employee scheduling, team management, doctor/patient time planning, etc.

Blog Buzz: Ad Wars, John McCain Wants to Fire SEC Chair, Todd Palin Ignores Subpoena

Recent ads released by Barack Obama and John McCain have set off an ad war between the candidates. McCain has released two ads tying Barack Obama to former Fannie Mae CEOs Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson. The Obama campaign says an E-mail proves that Raines is not an adviser, but the McCain campaign points to recent stories in the Washington Post to support its assertion. Conservative bloggers aren't happy about a Time blogger who says that McCain is playing the race card with the Raines ad (Raines is African-American) because of images in the ad and the omission of Obama's tie to Johnson, who is white. They point out that McCain has since released an ad about Johnson. For their part, the Obama campaign has released a Spanish-language ad, "Dos Caras," attacking McCain on immigration and linking the candidate to Rush Limbaugh.

Internal Emails Released In Vista Capable Debacle

An anonymous reader writes "As previously discussed, Microsoft's attempt to shield itself from further discovery over the Windows Vista Capable debacle has failed and more internal emails have been released. Although Microsoft has successfully kept CEO Steve Ballmer away from the witness stand on grounds the he 'has no unique knowledge of the facts in this case,' emails suggest otherwise. An email was released in which Intel CEO Paul Otellini thanks Ballmer for listening and making changes to the program allowing their 915 chipset to pass the grade: 'I know you did it.'"

iTunes On OS X Finally Has Competition

mallumax writes "The truth is, iTunes is an average music player. Though the UI is simple and good like most Apple products, it has lagged in features compared to music players available on Linux and Windows. A feature as basic as monitoring a folder and adding the latest music files to the library is unavailable in iTunes. There are no plugins or themes. Despite the many faults, many of us continued to use iTunes because of the lack of options available. But today the wait is finally over. Not one, but two music players have become credible contenders. Songbird: An open source music player which has been in the works for more than 2 years has finally released its 1.0 Release Candidate builds. The team behind Songbird has members who previously developed for both Winamp and the Yahoo Music Engine.

Hands-on With Windows 7's New Features

Barence writes "Microsoft has released the first pre-beta code of Windows 7, and PC Pro has a series of in-depth, hands-on examinations of all the new features. The revamped user interface has clearly gleaned more than a little inspiration from the Mac OS X Dock, but it goes further than the Apple concept with 'jumplists,' new gadgets and an updated system tray. The much-vaunted multi-touch controls were there to play with, and it seemed to work well. Networking has been given the full treatment, with new features HomeGroup and Libraries. Windows 7 debuts a new feature called Device Stage that has the potential to be unbelievably handy ... or a complete disaster. Finally, several new features could make PCs easier to manage and secure for IT departments, such as BitLocker To Go and Branch Cache.

German Doctor Cures an HIV Patient With a Bone Marrow Transplant

reporter writes "HIV is the virus that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Until now, HIV has no cure and has led to the deaths of over 25 million people. However, a possible cure has appeared. Dr. Gero Hutter, a brilliant physician in Germany, replaced the bone marrow of an HIV patient with the bone marrow of a donor who has natural immunity to HIV. The new bone marrow in the patient then produced immune-system cells that are immune to HIV. Being unable to hijack any immune cell, the HIV has simply disappeared. The patient has been free of HIV for about 2 years. Some physicians at UCLA have developed a similar therapy and plan to commercialize it."

AJAXWorld 2007: Google's Chris Schalk To Ask, "Will AJAX Always Exist?"

With the continued evolution of AJAX-enabled technologies, which dramatically simplify how to build AJAX applications, will the term "AJAX" simply wither away as ALL Web technologies eventually come to support AJAX and the novelty of rich client Web development disappears? This is the question that will be asked by Google's Chris Schalk (pictured) in March at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2007 East in New York. The leading Web 2.0 and RIA event will take place on March 19-21 2007 in New York's Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan.

Microsoft Has Windows Azure Cloud OS, Google Has Nothing

When it comes down to cloud platforms, Google is no contest for Microsoft. During the User Conference for Microsoft Services in Japan, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer pointed out that despite the fact that “Google [is the] number one search company from the cloud,” it “has yet to introduce a platform”. Ballmer explained that the reason for this is the fact that Google has not embraced building platforms for IT as a business model. By contrast, Microsoft is hard at work developing Windows Azure, the company's Cloud operating system.

As people are starting to build AJAX apps, the content is getting more opaque,” said Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch during his keynote address at the 6th International AJAXWorld RIA Conference & Expo earlier this week in San Jose, California. “It’s getting harder to find things with search engines. You need to be able to still get to that information as a user,” Lynch added and mentioned a technology developed by Adobe called “Ichabod” - which has already been released to Google, who use it in its indexing engines to search Flash content.
