Vics still keen on Pattinson: related news

Vics still keen on Pattinson

Darren Pattinson's foray into Test cricket is unlikely to have any bearing on his playing future with Victoria.

Is Today's Web Still 'the Web'?

snydeq writes "Fatal Exception's Neil McAllister raises questions regarding the transforming nature of the Web now that Tim Berners-Lee's early vision has been supplanted by today's much more complex model. AJAX, Google Web Toolkit, Flash and Silverlight all have McAllister asking, 'Is [the Web] still the Web if you can't navigate directly to specific content? Is it still the Web if the content can't be indexed and searched? Is it still the Web if you can only view the application on certain clients or devices? Is it still the Web if you can't view source?' Such questions bely a much bigger question for Web developers, McAllister writes. If today's RIAs no longer resemble the 'Web,' then should we be shoehorning these apps into the Web's infrastructure, or is the problem that the client platforms simply aren't evolving fast enough to meet

Vics paceman Pattinson to dump England

Aussies still queuing for Apple iPhone 3G a week after launch

"One week after the Australian launch of Apple's much-anticipated 3G iPhone, locals keen to buy the device are still queuing outside the company's only Sydney retail store," Renai LeMay reports for ZDNet Australia.

Ballmer: Google Won - But It's Still All About Search, Baby

Steve Ballmer is still talking up Microsoft’s (NSDQ: MSFT) search ambitions, and still openly regretting its ongoing underperformance in that department. It’s a familiar doctrine but, in light of the missed Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) opportunity, all the more poignant. Ballmer told FT.com: “I do fault us for the speed with which we dove into search, primarily because we didn’t see the business model. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) did a nice job on that, and that’s why they won. One of the mistakes we made is having a five-year gap between Windows releases did calcify our ability to react to anything.”

Competition: Caption Compo #2

So, we're still having a bit of a sort-out here at N-Europe HQ, and despite giving away two free Wii titles earlier in the week, we've still got more to get rid of (and still more scrubbing on that toilet, damn you Nathan). So here's another reward for you, our beloved readers.

Recovering Deleted Files By Inode Number In Linux And Unix

"So, now it's gone. But, and this is the only thing that's saving us a whole lot of headache, the file is still open in memory since we still have a "tail -f" job running in the background. This means that the tail command still has a filehandle open for our file FILE. Of course, we can't refer to it by that name anymore. One interesting thing to note about an inode is that it contains virtually all the information you ever wanted to know about your file... except it's name!"

eBay signals the end of the road for auctions as a winning business model

eBay has announced a major turnaround in its business with a new focus on fixed price sales and a reduction in its emphasis on auctions. Phew! Yes, the world is still round, the Pope and bears are still doing what comes naturally and people do, it seems, still prefer to buy something that has an actual price tag on it. Now, where's my pricing gun?

Famous Batmobile Tumbler Case Mod on eBay

About a year ago, the Batmobile case mod lit up the internets with a design crafted from a Wal-Mart R/C Tumbler. The mod still kicks ass, but the specs were lame a year ago and are now...one year lamer. Still, it would make for a unique web surfing device and a great way to celebrate the opening of the new movie. Plus, its pretty cheap at the moment (although there is still a week left). Shine A Light DVD & Blu-Ray Disc

I truly enjoyed seeing Shine a Light as I feel that it displays the Rolling Stones as the real deal. This is a band that has endured for years, and they are still relevant and they can still put on a riveting live performance. Coupled with the fact that the presentation on this DVD is nearly perfect, Shine a Light is an amazing time capsule of one of the most important rock and roll bands ever. They may be old, but the Rolling Stones are definitely still able to play....

iPhone Roundup: Apple Releases Software Update; Turkcell To Sell iPhone 3G in Turkey

This afternoon Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) pulled the wraps off the iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update, its latest update for the device. Aside from “bug fixes” and tangential improvements it doesn’t appear to resolve the iPhone 3G’s connectivity issues, yet some are still hopeful. The jury’s still out on whether the new device’s troubles are linked to a faulty chipset or network problems at AT&T (NYSE: T), but more importantly can it even be fixed with a software update? Details on the update are still scant at this point, but the 242 megabit update is available at iTunes for those hoping to see an end to all those dropped calls. Wishful thinking or has Apple nipped this mess in the bud?

Pattinson hopeful of future England call

Darren Pattinson, England's shock selection for the second Test at Headingley, fully expects to make way for Ryan Sidebottom when the squad for the Edgbaston Test is unveiled by the selectors on Saturday morning. But, despite the furore that surrounded his call-up after only 11 first-class games, he doesn't believe that he is destined to remain a one-cap wonder.

Still Lining Up for 3G iPhone

They're still lining up for Apple's iPhone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The demand for the new 3G iPhone...doesn't seem to be letting up. Weeks after it went on sale....the line outside Apple's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York stretched around the block...with the estimated waiting time for folks on line to purchase at about five hours. The 3G version of the iPhone is much improved over the original...in a number of areas. First in my book....is the improved sound quality of the phone itself. The 3G networks connections...when you aren't in WiFi range....is a big plus. And the new App store....opening up the iPhone to all kinds of new applications...gives it almost unlimited potential. For instance... Sega built one of the top selling apps for sale.
