Never let it be said that Australians don't eventually learn from their mistakes (apart from when they made Crocodile Dundee 3). Second only to the ridiculous decision (later recanted) to kill off Harold Bishop in Neighbours, the worst mistake ever made by an Australian was when someone agreed to rebrand the Sheffield Shield as the Pura Cup nine years ago, ending more than 100 years of first-class history to placate a milky sponsor.

AVENTURA, FL, Jul 01 (MARKET WIRE) -- Identity thieves may be left out in the cold, now that Shop Shield(R) has launched its beta test. Shop Shield is a new and better way to protect personal identity information on the web, and its many uses promise to excite the imaginations of both the public and journalists who try it out. It works by replacing sensitive personal information with anonymous, untraceable data each time consumers make a purchase online or register at a web site, making the information useless to anyone who gains unauthorized access to it. "For each online transaction Shop Shield creates substitute billing information," said President Steve Bachenheimer, "as well as a unique login identity complete with a temporary email address that can be deactivated at any time.

IconToday was one of those days when I wished Java would support multiple return values. I had to develop a rather CPU-intensive algorithm which would compute a solution for a knotty constraint problem. Having a solution alone is sometimes not enough and you also need to add some parameters which measure the quality of the computed outcome. Most of these accompanying parameters can or have to be computed within the algorithm itself, but Java allows you to return only one value either an object or a primitive type. People working with Lisp, MATLAB or Perl, just to mention a few, don't have a problem like this at all. Functions supporting multiple return values is already implemented at the language level and frameworks make heavy use of this.

Until humans can actually set foot on the Red Planet, the next best thing would be a sample return mission, to bring Martian soil samples back to Earth. A sample return would exponentially increase our knowledge and understanding Mars and its environment. And in order to pull off a mission of this magnitude, international cooperation might be required, and in fact, may be preferred. The International Mars Exploration Working Group (IMEWG), organized an international committee to study an international architecture for a Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission concept. After several months of collective work by scientists and engineers from several countries worldwide, the “iMARS” group is ready to publish the outcome of its deliberations and the envisioned common architecture for a future international MSR mission, and they will discuss thei

CINCINNATI About 4,000 children in the United States die every year from uncontrolled infections of the body known as septic shock, and researchers are pushing the boundaries of molecular science to find new therapies that can stem the condition. But a simple measure of an immune system protein within 24 hours of being admitted to the hospital for septic shock can predict survival in children, yielding a powerful tool for diagnostics and clinical trials of new septic shock therapies, according to a research team led by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in the Aug. 1 American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
