Question mark over Dhoni's availability

A day before the national selectors meet to pick India's Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, much of the speculation surrounds the participation of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Unconfirmed reports suggest Dhoni may skip the series and, while his own public statements have not cleared the air either way, the Indian board says it is unaware of any such decision.

Indian cricket star Dhoni gets all female police guard

Indian cricket star Mahendra Singh Dhoni is used to being surrounded by the ladies. Now it will become a permanent fixture in his life after police in his hometown of Ranchi assigned an all-female group of body guards to keep unwanted admirers away. The decision to give Dhoni, India’s limited-overs cricket captain, the new security detail comes after two recent incidents in which female fans tried to throw themselves on the heartthrob player, Ranchi police chief M. Multi-Level Marketing Company Threatens Blogger Who Writes Critical Post

Over and over and over again, we hear stories of companies that simply dislike what others are saying about them online, and send over threatening legal letters with no legal basis. These cease-and-desist letters are mostly designed to scare users into giving in, because there's no law against someone criticizing you or saying something bad about you (assuming it's not untrue). The latest, sent in by Davis Freeberg involves the Everyday Finance blog. The blogger there was approached by a company called "Shop to Earn," which offers a multi-level marketing (MLM) system. The blogger wrote a post about it, which Davis Freeberg describes as "well balanced," though the blogger explained the weaknesses of the system and why he chose not to participate.

A new venture in blogging for America

In commenting on liturgical readings and feasts of the Church, I have found myself wishing that I could 'say more' or better, 'say more systematically'. So, what I have been given permission to do is offer a systematical run through Mark's Gospel (later, other New Testament writings), following the Gospel as Mark has laid it out, chapter by chapter. The hope is that a fuller understanding of the purpose of Mark and how he achieved his purpose will ultimately serve to clarify each story of the Gospel. That is, we will be able better to understand a passage by having better understood the purpose of the entire work and how the passage fits into that purpose. I will offer a blog every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning September 1; we begin with Mark 1, 1.

Question of the Day: Are You Getting an iPhone 3G?

Well if you didn't know it was iPhone week yet, you do now. This morning we saw a Portuguese phone get blurrily unboxed, followed by a US version just a few minutes ago. Unfortunately they're mere teases—since you've read our 3G survival guide, you'll know that your opportunity comes Friday. So the question on everyone's mind is—are you going to pick one up? Upgrading? Sticking with the oldie? Or just can't wait for this week to be over? UPDATE: This poll may be broken. Either that, or we only have one reader who hates the iPhone—hey it's possible, but unlikely. Please continue to vote anyway, since it may just be a very laggy counter.
